She was drowning, in a vast, bottomless ocean, where no one would find her, fighting silently with no result . . silently screaming, screaming . . .
But then . . .
“Are you there, Chi?”
An abrupt flinch shattered through the stillness, the words having impaled her very consciousness, yanking her back into reality. A young, feminine voice had asked that from her, an unrecognizable timber too fuzzy to catch onto. Suddenly, her overwhelming thoughts had veered directions, and now, she was searching for a mere semblance of recognition.
Her eyes flickered in confusion, as she struggled with all her mental capacity to acknowledge the world around her, dragging herself up the unforeseen rope that led to a way out of that dark pit. Her efforts were exhausting, so much so that when she finally noticed the poster in front, she nearly staggered on her feet, as everything spun at a pace far too brisk for her sensors.
“Chica?”
She flinched again, but this time it took less than a second to recuperate. She recognized the voice; it belonged to JJ—the animatronic kid that'd been walking alongside her this entire time. Chica had been so absorbed in her one-man battle, that she forgot the girl was even there.
Her gaze quickly averted from the poster over to the kid, a hint of question hidden in its depths. Tilting her head, she watched as the child stared at her in concern, as if Chica had been commiting a heinous crime, and JJ was the unfortunate witness. It took a daunting moment, before the other at last lifted the veil from the source of suspense.
“You, paused,” Hesitantly, her circular hand pointed at her form, directing Chica's attention to her own self. The bird's eyes veered from her to her surroundings, realizing that she had indeed stopped, right beside the entrance to the main room. Another light of puzzlement ignited within, as she struggled to recall when she'd done that. JJ, picking at the bafflement, found that the right time to continue explaining.
“You fell really silent, and then just stopped to stare at Toy Chica's poster. It's been a few minutes,”

As soon as the stage lights dimmed, so did her eyes. Her constraints retained for a few fractional moments, and then abruptly collapsed with a sharp snap. Exhaustion overtook her entire being, and before she knew it, the female was staggering back into the stage wall. Her vision blurred, everything beginning to close in and warp around her, as if the whole world was planning to conspire against her.
What was this feeling? Where did it arise from? She didn't understand. Her systems were in an alarming frenzy, screaming into her face with voices completely indiscernible. All she could do was cry out for help, or so she thought.
From an outsider's perspective, just the feeble, broken mass of the words, “Help ... someone .." could be stammered. At last, her legs gave out, and she collapsed against the wall.
Strobe lights, that's what her sight was like. Fading in, fading out. Her voice trembled in faint gasps, trying to string together something that could deliver the situation of her current predicament. But, it was like all and everything had closed in on her, coiled around her voice box like a silent torture device.
Shadows and silhouettes danced about whenever they could find the chance. Lights and sounds had mashed together into a creation she could not define. All she could do was faintly beg for help.
Teetering at the very fringes of oblivion, when she was almost, almost gone, Chi's debilitated senses picked on an ever so faint, miniscule brush. Within an infinitesimal minute, the touch grew heavy, a firm something resting against her shoulder. Despite not evoking any pain, it still sparked a jolt inside, causing her beak to shift in a grimace.
