Lost memories
Ship: Wonki

Struggling with memory loss from a past accident, Jungwon seeks answers from Ni-ki, his best friend, leading to a heartfelt exploration of their lost connection and uncertain future.

Jungwon was busy cleaning his room as usual, but this time, he decided to tidy up his closet too.

While clearing it out, he suddenly stumbled upon a book tucked away in the corner. Curious, he picked it up and sat on his bed to take a closer look.

When he opened it, he was surprised to find lots of old pictures of him and his best friend, Ni-ki. They looked like they were taken some years ago, and Jungwon couldn't help but smile.

The book was filled with stickers and quotes, which made him wonder when they had put it together.

Did Ni-ki do it alone, or did they make it together? And why was it hidden in his wardrobe? He couldn't remember anything about it.

As he flipped through the pages, he reached the last page and was shocked to find a picture of the two of them kissing.

Jungwon's eyes widened, and his smile dropped as he stared at the picture.

What was this? Why were they kissing? When did this happen? Why couldn't he remember it? Was he drunk that time? No, he had never touched alcohol before.

He felt a wave of confusion washing over him. Then, he noticed the numerous hearts glued on the page surrounding the picture. What did they mean?

Just as he was trying to make sense of it all, a sheet of paper slipped out from between the pages of the book, catching his attention.

Curious, he reached for it, his heart pounding.

Jungwon carefully unfolded the sheet of paper, revealing a handwritten letter. His hands trembled slightly as he read the words.

-------------------

Hey Jungwon,

I'm glad you finally found the book we made together a few years back. It's filled with so many memories that I cherish deeply. I remember how much fun we had putting it together.

But there's something important I need to tell you. A few years ago, you were in a car accident, and you lost your memories. You couldn't remember anything, not even our relationship or the bond we shared.

It broke my heart to see you wake up and not recognize me or any of the moments we shared.

I tried my best to help you remember, showing you pictures and telling you stories, but it was like you were a different person.

I held onto hope that one day you'd remember, but as time passed, it became clear that your memories might never return.

Even though you couldn't remember, I still cherished the moments we spent together. I just wanted you to know that, despite everything, I'll always be here for you, no matter what.

Take care,
Ni-ki

--------------------

Jungwon's heart sank as he read Ni-ki's letter. Relationship? Ni-ki and him were in a relationship? Why couldn't he remember any of it? And a car accident? His parents never mentioned anything about that.

Questions swirled in his mind, leaving him feeling disoriented and lost.

Without hesitation, Jungwon reached for his phone and dialed Ni-ki's number. He needed answers, and he needed them now. After a few rings, Ni-ki picked up.

"Hey, Jungwon! What's up?" Ni-ki's cheerful voice sounded through the phone.

"Can you come over? It's important," Jungwon blurted out.

"Of course. I'll be there right away. Is everything okay?" Ni-ki's concern was evident in his tone.

"Yeah, yeah, I'll explain when you get here," Jungwon replied hastily before hanging up.

Moments later, there was a knock on the door, and Ni-ki stood there, looking concerned.

"Jungwon, what's going on? You sounded really urgent over the phone," Ni-ki said, stepping into the room.

Jungwon hesitated for a moment, struggling to find the right words. Instead of saying something, he just showed him the book he found.

Ni-ki's expression softened. "Ah, I see. You found it," he said gently, guiding Jungwon to sit down. They both settled onto the bed, Jungwon still wearing a puzzled and concerned expression.

Without waiting for him to speak, Ni-ki began, "Everything I wrote in the letter is true."

Jungwon's mind raced with a whirlwind of emotions. "But... but why didn't you tell me before?" he finally managed to stammer out.

Ni-ki sighed softly. "I wanted to. But it was so difficult seeing you struggle with your memory loss. I didn't want to overwhelm you with information that might confuse or upset you even more."

Jungwon's heart felt heavy as he absorbed Ni-ki's words. "So, we were... in a relationship?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

"Yes, we were. And even though you couldn't remember, my feelings for you never changed. I still love you, even if you can't reciprocate those feelings right now."

Jungwon sat in stunned silence, unable to find the words.

"It was really hard for me," Ni-ki said, breaking the silence. "Knowing that you didn't remember our relationship, our bond... It was like a piece of me was missing."

Jungwon's heart ached as he listened to Ni-ki's words. "I'm so sorry I can't love you" he whispered.

But Ni-ki gently interrupted him, shaking his head. "No, don't apologize. Feelings, love... they can't be forced."

As tears welled up in Jungwon's eyes, Ni-ki reached out, gently wiping them away with his thumb. "It's okay, really. Please don't cry," he murmured softly.

Jungwon sniffled. "But... what do we do now?" he asked, his voice barely a whisper.

Ni-ki's expression softened as he looked into Jungwon's eyes, his own filled with uncertainty. "I... I don't know," he admitted. "But we'll figure it out together, okay? Whatever happens, I'll be here for you."

Jungwon nodded, his heart heavy with guilt. "I just... I want to remember," he whispered, his voice trembling. "I feel so sorry for not being able to feel what you feel."

Ni-ki wrapped his arms around him, pulling him into a comforting embrace. "It's okay. Please don't blame yourself," he murmured, holding him close.

As they sat together in silence, the weight of their unspoken emotions hung heavy in the air. Despite Ni-ki's reassurances, Jungwon couldn't shake the feeling of emptiness and longing that consumed him.

In that moment, they both understood that some wounds may never fully heal, and some losses may never be regained.

And as the weight of their unspoken words lingered between them, they knew that some stories end not with resolution, but with silent acceptance of what could never be.
