Hold My Hand

40 3 3

I'd seen her for the first time
At the local park:
Pigtail braids and pink ribbons
And a muddy princess gown.

The blazing morning sun
Shined warmly over her face
As she clambered up the rickety stairs,
Bellowing trails of rose lace fluttering in her wake.

Meanwhile, I stood,
In the hidden shades of a tree
Watching, while
A hand nervously picked at my clothes.
She surely wouldn't see me.

Her blue gaze found mine across the park;
I stepped back into the shadows
While a smile lit her visage
As she came barreling towards me;
Hand gripping mine,
And pulled me towards the swings.

A smile o'er her countenance,
Toothy grins and kind eyes;
I knew then as I held her hand
That a friendship like ours
Would be as infinite as time.
