Elaine drifted in and out of consciousness, the deafening thud of chopper blades echoing in her ears. Through the haze, she saw Philip sitting beside her, holding her hand tightly while grimacing in pain from his wounded side. Despite her efforts, Elaine found it increasingly difficult to shake off the fog enveloping her mind. Her eyelids felt heavy, resisting her attempts to keep them open. No matter how hard she struggled to stay awake, exhaustion finally overtook her. With a reluctant sigh, she surrendered to the darkness, slipping into a dreamless void that felt like a mere fleeting moment.

As she slowly regained consciousness, Elaine became aware of the faint, steady beeping of a machine nearby. With effort, she opened her eyes, trying to make sense of her surroundings. She found herself in a hospital bed, the room bathed in dim light. Tubes and monitors were attached to her arms, and bags of saline hung beside her bed. A wave of confusion washed over her as she tried to piece together what had happened. Where was Phillip? Why was she here?

Panic surged through her veins as questions flooded her mind. Ignoring the ache that enveloped her body as if she had just completed a grueling triathlon, she attempted to sit up. But her movements triggered a cacophony of alarms from the machines monitoring her vital signs. Oxygen indicators and pressure cuffs were hastily removed in her frantic efforts to escape the confines of the hospital bed.

In response to the blaring alarms, a nurse burst into the room, her expression a mix of concern and urgency.

"You're awake!" the nurse exclaimed with relief. "Now, now, no need to panic and start pulling everything out."

Elaine's voice came out hoarse as she asked, "Where am I?" She tried to gauge whether she needed to fight, flee, or perhaps both.

"You're safe," the nurse reassured her before Elaine could voice her skepticism.

"I will be the judge of that. Where am I?" Elaine asserted boldly.

Apologies for the oversight. Here's a revised version with some enhancements:

Before she could press further, Daniel burst through the door with a wide grin, his arrival interrupting the tension in the room.

"Heard that Sleeping Beauty is finally awake," he teased.

"I will only ask this one more time," she said, her eyes flashing green for emphasis. "Where am I?"

"Whoa, relax, you're in a medical facility run by the council," Daniel answered, gesturing with his hands.

Elaine breathed a sigh of relief. "Where's Phillip?" she asked.

"He's right next door to you. They wheeled him out of surgery a few minutes ago. I was actually checking on him when I heard that you're awake."

While Daniel relayed this information, the nurse attempted to resituate all her monitors.

"Thank you, but this won't be necessary," Elaine said firmly, halting the nurse's attempt to proceed. She felt an urgent need to check on Phillip. But her family...Rutherford had threatened dire consequences if she attempted to escape.

"Ma'am, please, just let me do my job," the nurse pleaded.

"I'll keep the bags hooked up to me, assuming they contain glucose and necessary electrolytes. But I refuse to be confined to bed rest with machines hooked up to me. I'm going to check on Phillip myself," Elaine declared, then turned to face Daniel as she climbed out of bed. "Any news about my family? Rutherford said..."

Daniel raised a hand to halt her. "Don't worry, they've all been moved to a safe location."

The nurse looked to Daniel for assistance, but he merely smiled sympathetically and shrugged. Elaine reached for the back of her hospital gown, ensuring she wasn't exposing herself. Fortunately, they had only removed the jumpsuit. She grasped the opening for extra measure, then took hold of the pole with the bags hanging from it. The nurse stood uncertainly.
