The pieces of the puzzle started falling into place, and Eris felt a mix of fear and dread. She couldn't help but wonder what kind of game fate was playing with her.

"Ah, there it is. The same expression," he said, tilting his head. Eris caught a glimpse of his metallic gray irises; however, there was no hint of malice or anger in them, only amusement.

Kael's voice turned eerily pleasant as he observed the realization dawning on Eris. "I see the recognition in your eyes," he continued. "You witnessed my little display in the forest, didn't you? The heart, the blood... it was quite a spectacle, wasn't it?"

Eris's grip on her sword tightened even further, her eyes narrowing in fear and anger. "You're a maniac," she spat out, her voice trembling with a mixture of emotions.

Kael's smirk widened, his eyes gleaming with wicked delight. "Oh, I wouldn't say that. On the contrary, I find the act of tearing out a heart quite exhilarating. It's an art. Also, I think you're jumping to conclusions."

"You're crazy."

"Everyone is."

"Why did you kill him?" she asked but was met with silence.

"Are you going to kill me too?" Eris questioned again, gripping her sword tightly.

An evil smile spread across Kael's lips. "Do you want to die?"

Eris's eyes widened at his words, but she quickly schooled her expression, staring fiercely at him as if unafraid, while Kael, who had watched her go from being a scared bunny to a feisty cat, couldn't help but chuckle.

Eris, who didn't understand what was funny, frowned, her hair forming curtains of waves over her face and shoulders, reaching her lower back.

"So comical," he murmured, his voice low and full of humor. Kael stared at the unrelenting figure in front of him, and his lips curled up into a playful smile. "Then, I will take that as a no," he said before taking a step forward, and at the same time, Eris took a step backward.

Eris didn't know if it was out of impulse or deliberate; all she knew was that she had to get away from this crazy demon.

He took another step onward, and she took another step backward. It was like one was watching a predator stalking its prey.

A smile formed on Kael's lips as he watched Eris continue to move back while he walked toward her.

Suddenly, Kael appeared in front of Eris, making her let out a short gasp, leaving little to no space between them.
