They Don't Understand

They don't understand the weight I carry
The darkness that consumes me whole
They don't see the pain I bury
Or the emptiness within my soul

They try to offer words of comfort
But they only make me feel more alone
They don't know the demons I consort
Or the battles I fight on my own

They tell me to simply "cheer up"
As if it's that easy to do
But they don't know the depths I must sup
Or the constant struggles I go through

They don't understand the tears I shed
Or the nights I spend in despair
They don't know the thoughts in my head,
Or the constant sense of being impaired

They think they know, but they have no clue
Of the darkness that I must endure
They don't understand, and never will do
The pain that I must constantly endure
