Part 71 The Final Move

Start from the beginning

It was Karan’s bedroom. He was lying in bed, wide awake. They could hear his breathing. Every now and then, he turns his body, or sat up to drink some water.

After dinner, Aditya showed him around the estate. He invited Karan to his underground cellar to view some of his prized booties/body parts taken from his victims. He also showed him some people that he’s kidnapped and kept in cells. Karan did a quick count. There were more than ten people imprisoned, including Avni’s fiancé, Narain. He looked pale and terrified.  He had lost a lot of weight since Karan last saw him. He was surprised to see Karan there. But he was too afraid to ask any questions.

Aditya said: “We’ll have some fun tomorrow.”

Karan smiled: “Sure.”

It was a ‘pleasant’ conversation. They didn’t say very much, but they seemed to understand what’s in each other’s minds. When they reached Karan's bedroom, Aditya made sure he was happy with the room before he said goodnight and left.

And Karan remained calm at all times. He took a shower, then got changed and lied down on the bed.

He has a little microphone in his ear, which meant he can hear what’s going on in Bala’s room. But he couldn't speak. Because he was sure the room was wired.

Although Monami couldn't see Karan, she could see what he was seeing. Her heart followed his every move. She was concerned for his safety. Even though the army and the FBIs have surrounded the estate, it only took a few seconds for Aditya to kill him if he wants to.

One of the FBI agent in Bala’s room walked over to Monami. He was in charge of ground operation for this case, a Caucasian in his forties.

Monami smiled at him. He looked like a considerate and sincere man: “Jenny, we commend you for your bravery and wisdom. How are you feeling?”

Monami smiled: “I am fine. Thank you. I want to thank you too. It’s a risky plan and the FBI has put a lot of effort into this operation.”

In fact, so many people were involved in this operation - the media, FBI, the army, Maryland University criminal psychologist… Everyone was cooperating with Karan in setting up this trap for Aditya. This was why Monami almost believed the existence of Karan’s split personality. This lie was too grand. It’s so ‘ridiculous’ that it’s hard not to believe.

The FBI agent laughed, He said seriously: “Simon has given a lot for our country. We have great respect for him. And Aditya is a cunning and cruel criminal. We cannot afford to let him slip. Therefore, we have no reason to refuse Professor Shergill’s requests.”

A few hours later, Bala came to her.

This genius hasn’t slept for days. He looked tired. He quietly walked up to her, and took a seat beside her. He puts something on the table that looked like a walkie talkie.

Agar aap isme kuch kahoge toh wo h aapko sun paayenge. Bs jab kuch bolna ho toh yeh red button ko press karna hain.” Then he left and walked back to his seat.

Monami looked appreciatively at Bala. She picked up the device.

Hi, Karan.”  She spoke with a soft low voice.

Everyone in the room could hear their conversation. They all smiled.  Some of them turn around and looked at her.

Monami was not paying any attention to the rest of the people in the room. She was just staring at the screen.  About one second later, Karan lifted his hand and touched his nose.
