Chapter nineteen
Ghostface Disappears...For Now
Lacey's POV:
I woke up to a mop of curls on my chest. I kissed Ethan's head and I felt him squeeze me in response. The sun shined into Ethan's bedroom, a yellow morning hue filling the room. "Listen, Kirby has to wait on us. And I'm not going anywhere until Ethan and Lacey get up." Tara said. I heard Sam's sigh of defeat and Kai said "guys, let's just meet up with her later this afternoon. I do kind of want to go see Anika. Since she's getting out of the hospital today." I tuned their conversation out as I looked at Ethan in front of me. His lips were parted as he slept, his chest rising and falling slowly. I ran a hand through his curls and Ethan nuzzled his face into my chest. I then felt the dreaded urge to go to the bathroom. I sighed and shook Ethan softly. "Eth." Ethan didn't budge as he sighed sleepily. I then began to push him off of me, his arms tightening around me. "Eth, I need to get up." Ethan shook his head and said "you're ok, babe." I quickly went to use the bathroom, washing my hands. I then went back into Ethan's bedroom. Ethan then left me to go to the bathroom. I pulled the covers back up onto my body, nuzzling my face into his pillow. My eyes started to flutter closed and the bed dipping broke me out of sleep that was slowly returning. Ethan brushed a strand of hair behind my ear and I said "m'so tired, Eth." Ethan laid down next to me and "I know." He pulled me close to him. My back was to his chest and Ethan held me tightly. "Are you feeling better?" I nodded and said "yeah." I shifted my body and Ethan winced softly. I immediately looked at him and he said "it's fine. Just the bruises." "I'm sorry." I said softly. Ethan shook his head and said "it's ok. I'm just sore all over." I lifted my shirt and showed him the bruises he had left on me. His eyes widened and he said "oh my god. I didn't mean to. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you, Lace." I rolled around to face him, cupping his cheek. "Hey, I'm ok. I promise." Ethan slowly leaned in, pressing a kiss to my lips.

Kai's POV:
"Do you want me to go and get Anika?" I asked Mindy. She nodded and said "yeah. I think I'm gonna stay here. With Chad." "I'll take Iz with me. And we can go back to the apartment to get her some clothes and things like that." Mindy nodded again and Tara ate a spoonful of her cereal. Chad sniggered as he went into the kitchen. "What?" As I approached Ethan's door, I heard the soft knocking of his bed frame hitting the wall. I shook my head in disbelief and said "no." I can give you some fresh clothes since yours is still a crime scene." Anika nodded and we made our way to Iz's apartment. She patted his shoulder and Ethan said "I am not, babe." "Just a little." Chad replied. Ethan rolled his eyes and Lacey wrapped her arms around him. Ethan melted into her touch and pulled her close to him. "Has anyone heard from Kirby?" I asked curiously. Chad shook his head and said "no." "It doesn't make sense. She was supposed to let us know when she had something." Tara said. Ethan's phone rang and everyone seemed to jump. "Who is it?" Sam said. Ethan huffed and said "my dad." "You don't want to talk to your dad?" Chad said. Ethan removed Lacey from him and stood up. "No. My dad's an asshole." "Don't. You don't have to answer it, Ethan." Lacey said as she slowly reached for his hand. Ethan put the phone to his ear, ignoring Lacey's comment. He went to his room, leaving all of us in the living room. Lacey sighed and said "I wish he wouldn't talk to his dad." "Have you ever talked to him?" I said. Lacey shook her head and said "no. He just tells me the things he says to him. It's awful." Lacey went to the kitchen and Chad was watching Bolt. Iz seemed to be watching it as well. "I wish Kirby would figure all this out. I want this to be over." Tara said. I nodded in agreement and said "that'd be nice. Then everything could go back to normal." "I can spend more time with Lacey after this. I want her to be ok and not be super stressed out about all this." "Well, that's what I'm here for, Tara. You should be there for your sister. After all, I'm Lacey's best friend." I said. Tara furrowed her eyebrows and said "ok. I'm her friend too. And you're always with her." "Exactly. I'm the friend who never left her or judged her. I also didn't have a huge blow up at a party and was unbelievably bitchy to her." Tara scoffed softly at my comment and then went into the kitchen. I smirked to myself and watched Lacey wander down the hallway to Ethan's bedroom. "Eth?" She said as she knocked on the door. Mindy and Anika came out of Chad's bedroom and Mindy said "Kirby say anything?" "No." Sam replied. Mindy threw her arms up in the air and said "that's great." "So, what do we do now?" Anika said. Sam sat down on the couch and said "wait to hear from Kirby I guess." Lacey went into Ethan's bedroom and I went to go and sit next to Iz.

Lacey's POV:
I knocked on Ethan's door, calling out. I slowly opened his bedroom door and closed it behind me. "Ethan, what's wrong?" He stood up from his bed and walked to his window. He breathed heavily, his chest rising and falling quickly. I slowly approached him, reaching for his arm. Ethan held back a sob and I looked at him in shock. "Ethan, what happened? What's wrong?" I asked frantically. Ethan shook his head and I immediately gave him a hug. "Ethan, what's wrong?" Ethan's breath trembled and I watched tears fall from his eyes. I cupped his cheek and made him look at me. "Talk to me, Ethan. What's wrong?" He shook his head and said "I can't. I can't. I can't do this." I searched his face for an answer and said "what's wrong? I don't know how to help you. Tell me what's wrong." "My...." Ethan sobbed softly and I kissed his lips sweetly and said "I'm here. And he's far away, right? You told me that." Ethan's body shook and he said "it doesn't matter he just....wants you gone." "Do you?" Ethan pulled away to look at me. "Huh?" "Do you want me gone, Ethan?" He shook his head and said "no. No. I don't ever want you to leave. I love you." "Then I'm going to stay, Ethan. I won't leave you. Ever." We can beat Ghostface." Ethan nodded and I gave him a hug. "I love you so much, Ethan. I love you." Ethan cried softly and squeezed me. I stroked his head and said "I love you."
