I was peacefully sipping my night tea with my colleague-come-friends in the casino, when my PA came running towards me with my phone in his hands.

I looked at him in question and he just panted then tried to say something, but when he failed, he just passed me the phone. It was Dhara's call.

"What's wrong dragon?" I asked her casually, unaware of the storm that was about to hit me.

"Shut up bhai! You don't even have an ounce of shame and guilt, now do you?" She asked me and I put my tea on the table, giving my hundred percent attention to her.

"What is it?" I asked my sister who was fuming in rage. Yea, I could feel it from the phone.

"If you want to see your wife safe and sound for the last time, come back and drive towards XXX hospital." Her words made me numb for a second.

Wait, what?

And when I was asked my those colleagues/friends what happened, the call was already cut. So I did what I knew was the right thing at that moment.

"Get the car ready and book the earliest flight back to Bengalore!" I ordered my PA sternly as I left from the casino in a hurry.

Whatever it is, just stay safe please, Anushka!

When I reached home, I was met with darkness. Since last twelve hours of journey, I was in the same clothes. I was certain that my hair must be a mess by now. But the only think I wanted was to see Anushka. Safe and sound! And NOT for the last time.

"Hello? Where's Anushka?" I asked Dhara as soon as she picked up the call. I was already standing on the reception of the hospital name she gave me.

"You here yet?" She asked me nonchalantly.

"Yes. On the reception." I told truthfully.

"Good. Come to the second floor, room number nineteen." And with that, she hung up the call. Thanking the receptionist, I ran towards the room number she gave me. All the while, sweat was dripping down my spine, thinking about all the possibilities that could have happened.

I was out for seven days and something happened to my wife! I can't believe I let it happen.

Since the elevator was out of order for the meantime, I took stairs to reach the second floor. All the while, the memory of me rejecting her calls for the last seven days flooded in my mind.

Maybe she wanted to tell me something important? Maybe she wanted to inform me about her health? And I was an idiot, a fool to ignore that. Finding more fun with my so called business friends!

As I reached room no.19 and stood by the door, my hands started to shake on the possibilities of what I might see inside the room. I wanted to cry and scream but the only thing I could do was keep calm and open the door.

So that's what I did. And I was met with the sight of my dear wife lying on the bed with wires attached to her hands, and my sister feeding her some pieces of cherry and apples.

Oh my dearest cherry! What exactly happened to you!!
