Your Words

Gone are the days of tender vows

Sweet nothings whispered in my ear

Now your words are sharp as knives

And every cut brings salty tears.

Your tongue is like a venomous snake

Leaving me wounded and alone

My heart beats with a heavy ache

As I try to make our love my own.

But why do you say such painful things

When all I want is your embrace?

My love for you still soars on wings

Even though your words, bitter, I must face.

I wonder if you understand

The lasting damage that you've done

Or is it just your selfish demands

That make you speak in such a tone?

Perhaps one day you'll realize

The hurtful words you said in vain

And finally apologize

For causing me such endless pain.

Until then, I'll keep on proving

That I'm strong enough to rise above

My heart still wounded but still moving

In search of a brighter kind of love.

For I deserve words that heal

And a love that does not tire

And though your hurtful words may steal

I'll keep my spirit soaring higher.
