Show me how- men I trust.

Y/ns pov

The following days were torture.

Maxine was handling it somewhat well.

I couldn't. This is my second time killing someone, but this time, it was a friend..

Linda has talked me through most of it, and she has been a big help, but I still feel like shit.

She kept reassuring me I did nothing wrong..

Then it reminded me of Joel when I killed Adam.

Then I thought of Joel, which dragged me through even more shitty thoughts.

I look at my window and see the sun rising.

I should not be pulling all-nighters at my age, Jesus fuck.

I close my eyes for a bit.

"Joelll..." I call out.

He hums.

It was 1984, and I had stayed the night as his house.

"Joelll.." I say louder.

"I will smack you.. what do you want?" He mumbles into his pillow.

"Hi." I smile.

He lazily lifts his arm and lightly smacks my forehead.

"Ow. You dick." I say, rubbing my forehead. I hold onto his arm. "Your arm is mine now.." I say.

"Give it back, Rodriguez, or I swear.." he says, looking at me. "What? What are you gonna do, punk?" I jokingly poke him.

"Oh I know you did not just call me punk." He says. "What if I did?" I smirk. He tries to hide a smile before pouncing.

We play fight for a good few minutes. He ends up on top of me. We both fall out in a fit of laughter.

We both stare at each other. We slowly lean in before the door barges open.

"Joel! Mom needs you, quit making out with your girlfriend and get down here!" Tommy yells.

"Morning to you too Tom." I say.

"I'm not ready to be an uncle, at least wait a few months."

"Oh, get out!" Joel throws a pillow.

I wake up. I look out the window and see no one else outside.

I get up and get ready for the day. I make myself some breakfast and coffee.

I sit out on my porch and crochet.

I was rocking in my chair when I saw familiar dread locks. "Morning Dusty." I say.

"I see you're in a good mood today." His gruff voice turns softer as he clears his throat.

"Mind if I join?" He asks. I smile at him. He smiles back and sits next to me.

We continue talking, and Maxine joins us. "Hey, beautiful." She greets me. "Hi hun. You're never up this early. What's the catch?" I ask.

"I had a some what sleep over with Caroline. She's a bright kid." She says.

"Oh yeah." I say, sinking into my chair.

"My coach in high school, his wife, used to crochet too. I know a lot of people disagree, but I actually loved high school." Maxine says.
