Chapter 20

"I dont... understand." Kayla hiccupped as she lay in bed, curled up in a ball, under the covers. "Is it something I did?"
"No. It's not your fault." Vicky said as she looked around at everyone else.
"Kayla. Come here." Hunter nudged her gently.
"No." She whined quietly.
"What happened?" Ace whispered to Ruby.
"The Ravenwoods want Kayla. She's their target." Ruby whispered back quietly.
Ace raised his eyebrow in shock and then looked back at Hunter.
Hunter stood up and walked towards the window. He looked out it and stared at the pitch black night. "You'll be fine here. "
"How do you know?" Kayla asked as she was still under the covers.
"The ravenwoods have no clue about the safe house." Hunter said.
Kayla sniffled a little.
"Right. Everyone just..go to sleep, it's late." Hunter said, escorting them all out.
Hunter went to the bed and got under the covers near Kayla.
She couldn't see him clearly, but she knew he was smirking at her. Kayla huffed as she turned her back to him.
"Why are you mad?" Hunter quickly faced her to him.
"Because." Kayla said."I dont like this."
"Like what?" Hunter asked her.
"This life." She started to cry. "Im scared, Hunter."
"Of what?" He questioned. "Do you think I'll let you get hurt?"
Kayla shook her head slightly. "No."
"Then don't be scared." Hunter reassured her.
He lied down, and they sat in bed silently together for a while.
Mia was about to go to bed, but she wanted to check on Kayla first.
She walked to their room and opened to the door. "Are you guys asleep?"
"No. We're gonna go to sleep now. Cam, you turn the light off?" Hunter asked.
"Yeah." Mia said before turning the lights off and going back to her room where Damien was waiting for her.
When the lights went off, Kayla became more paranoid. What if the Ravenwoods would find her location?
She felt her heart race go up.
Kayla kept quiet for 5 minutes, but she could feel a panic attack about to happen. She faced her head to Hunter, but he was already asleep, so she turned away from him.
As she closed her eyes, she felt a pair of arms wrap around her.
"Hunter." She whispered, trying to push his arms off.
He moved his arms down her side and to her hips as he slept.
"Hunter!" Kayla yelled in a louder tone.
Suddenly, she heard a soft chuckle escape his mouth.
"You're not even sleeping, are you?" She shuffled around.
"Nope." Hunyer laughed.
"You're so annoying." Kayla yawned.
"Im cold." Hunter complained.
"Hug yourself." Kayla replied sassily.
"Can I hug you?" Hunter smirked.
"What?" Kayla felt herself blush.
"You hesrd me." Hubter replied. Kayla kept quiet because she didn't know what to say. "If you're not going to answer.." Hunter broke the silence. He wrapped his arms around Kayla, pulling her close to him.
Kayla didn't try to stop him. Instead, she felt more comfortable. He made her feel safe. Kayla went to sleep peacefully.
The next day.
"Me and the boys are going out later. Will you guys be okay at home by yourself?" Hunter said.
"Yes." Kayla was quick to say as she stood up. She then cleared her throat and said in a calmer tone, "We'll be fine."
Hunter looked at the other girls and nodded when he saw them all look eager to a night by themselves. "Alright." He left the room.
"What have you got planned?" Mia chuckled
"Girls' night." Kayla said."Are there any drinks in the house, like vodka?"
"No." Vicky answered.
"Great." Kayla sighed sarcastically "Well Hunter isn't going to give it."
"Ask Nick." Belle said
"He's your boyfriend. You ask." Kayla spoke
"You ask first, and if he says no, then I'll ask." Belle suggested.
"Okay, let's go." Kayla smirked.
Kayla walked into the kitchen, where she found Nick drinking water.
"Nick?" Kayla walked up to him.
"What's up?" He replied.
"Im craving something. Bit, I need you to get it for me." Kayla said.
Nick looked at her, raising his eyebrow. "What is it?"
"I want vodka." Kayla replied.
"Ha!" Nick laughed."Hunter is going to burry me alive."
"He doesn't have to know." Kayla shrugged. "Please, Nick."
When Nick still didn't agree, Kayla shouted, "Belle!"
Nick smirked when he saw Belle walk him.
"Nicky, please?" Belle ran her fingers through his hair.
"No." Nick laughed.
They kept begging him, but Nick held his ground.
"Fine." Kayla huffed. "Are there any drinks in the house?"
"Yeah. But Hunter is probably putting it away because he knows what you're like." Nick laughed as he left the room.
"Where would he put it thought?" Kayla faced Belle.
"I dont know." Belle sighed.
Kayla thought for a second, then said, "The safe!"
"What safe." Belle asked.
"In our room. Hunter is always hiding stuff in there." Kayla said. She then pulled Belle to their room with her.
"What are you doing?" Hunter made Kayla jump.
"Nothing." Kayla said, followed by a nervous laugh.
"Nick told me what you were asking him. And don't worry. You won't get to the drinks." He walked over to the safe and patted it.
"You're so annoying." Kayla groaned.
"Yeah, well." He shrugged. He then picked up his backpack. "We're going now. I'll be back tonight." He kissed her cheek before leaving the room.
They waited until the SUV left the garage.
"Let's do this." Belle said as they ran to the safe.
"4 digit code." Kayla sighed.
She started pressed random number. "Its not working."
"What's Hunters birthday?" Belle asked.
"03.02." Kayla said as she put in the number.
Bzz! The safe yelled because the numbers were wrong
"Ugh!" Kayla groaned "Let's forget it."
Just before Kayla was about o get up, Belle said "Wait! Try yours."
"Okay." Kayla said before pushing the pushing the buttons "19.11"
Beep! The safe yelled, unlocking.
Kayla blushed when she realised the password was her birthday.
"Aw! That's so cute." Belle teased.
"Yeah, yeah." Kayla laughed.
"Eek! There's tequila." Kayla squealed as she picked up the bottle.
"Belle, Kayla? Are you done?" Mia asked from the lounge room.
"Yeah, we're coming." Belle replied as she picked up the rest of the drinks and ran down.
"Can someone get 2 glasses?" Kayla asked.
"Yeah. But why only 2?" Vicky replied as she went to get the glasses. She put.them down on the table.
"We're going to play the drinking game." Kayla smirked.
"Oh my god." Mia laughed.
"How do you play?" Ruby asked.
"Two people each round. You have to chug your drink and see who wins." Kayla explained while pouring the drinks. "Who wants to go against me?"
"I will." Ruby sat down in the seat across from Kayla.
They put their drinks infront of them as Mia started the countdown "3. 2. 1. DRINK!"
The girls picked up their drinks and started chugging it down.
Withing 10 seconds Kayla put her drink down "Done!"
"I was so close!" Ruby whined as she got up.
"Whos next?" Kayla challenged.
"Me." Mia sat down.
They carried on playing and no one beat Kayla.
"Guys. I think we should stop now." Sofie suggested "Kaylas already had 8 drinks."
"Whaaaat?" Kayla slurred "im fine."
"Kayla. Have this." Vicky tried to feed her some water but Kayla pushed the bottle away.
"Whose next?" Kayla stood up on thr table.
She walked across it with here eyes closed.
When she pit her left foot forward, she screamed as she felt herself slip off the table.
