The absolute banger of a song for this chapter is by The Pixies!

Light shone through the windows of the room, sneaking and bouncing into the nearly empty classroom. The unrelenting sounds of the traffic had been muffled just enough to become a soothing ambiance noise

Four young artists stood impatiently, as they had been called. The Mary Janes, as they had now gotten used to calling themselves, fooled around until the door creaked

Heads turned when one Liz Allan came into view. The leader of the student council sighed before she pushed some hair behind her ear with one hand, and held a clipboard with the other

"Sorry for that. There was something I had to take care of on my way here"

"If it's about Faye's locker, I don't know anything about it"

Liz turned to her with a puzzled look

"What?"

"What?"

Silence took over the room for a moment before the girl decided to let it go. Probably for the best

"Anyway. This'll be worth your time, ladies. I promise"

En Jay leaned against a chair and raised a brow

"That's a bold claim"

Liz smiled at her and held her clipboard close

"As some of you might know, Prom is near, about a week and a half away"

A myriad of gasps and wide eyes followed that statement

"Oh snap" Gwen said

The redhead turned to her

"Right? I forgot about it too"

"Being buried under with projects does that to you" Glory nodded

A series of mumbles followed that statement, silenced only by Liz clearing her throat to get their attention

"Well, it is near, and it's my duty to help coordinate the event"

"HA! Good luck with that" Betty laughed from across the room

"Actually, that's where you come in"

Betty's laughter quickly died upon hearing that, and once again, all eyes were on Liz

"You want us to plan it?" Gwen inquired

But this only served to amuse the brunette

"No, no. That's my job"

Then, she turned to Mary Jane

"From what I understand, you four are in a band, a rather good one at that"

They nodded in agreement

"So the student council and I were wondering if you'd like to play at the event"

She beamed as she presented the idea to the girls, but they just...stared at her with raised brows and slightly titled heads

Only after six seconds of silence did Liz finally talk

"...is something wrong?"

Glory was the first to answer

"You see, Liz, we're not exactly known for slow and corny melodies"
