A/N: Quick warning. This one gets a bit too real
Everyone has that little something that just makes them hold on
Even if the world just keeps pushing on and on to break you, there's this one thing keeping it all together somehow
As the night reigned over the city, a tired Mary Jane returned home, guitar hanging on her back. However, she didn't open the door
She didn't want to
Instead, the teenager found her hand shying away from the doorknob. The static from television could be heard from inside
"You got this, Red. You can do it" She told herself
Mary Jane let out a heavy breath, and reached for the door once again, deciding to get this over with. She couldn't avoid it forever
And so, Mary Jane walked into her house. A figure could be seen from the kitchen, preparing something
It was her sister, Gayle. She had bags under her eyes and messy hair. She barely reacted to her sister's arrival
"About time you showed up" She said with a monotone voice
Em Jay rolled her eyes at her as she closed the door
"Good to see you too, sis. Where's--"
"Where were you?"
Another voice joined the conversation, one that sent chills down both their spines. This one was a man, bottle of beer in hand and a loose tie Hanging around his sore neck
This man was Philip Watson, their father
Mary Jane scowled at the sight of the beverage but returned her attention to the man, albeit reluctantly
"Practicing with the girls. I told you already"
Philip took a sip from the beer and walked towards the table, where a bunch of papers waited for him
"Just wasting time, then"
Gayle's eyes went wide at this comment. Her whole body froze in fear of what he just provoked
Sure, she had the patience, or lost the interest to fight, but Em Jay? She was another case entirely
She wasn't close to her sister per se, but she did know that her band was everything to her. The girl turned around to see Mary Jane's face red with anger as fists formed in her hands
"I'll tell you what is a waste of time..."
Inquisitive, her dad hummed as he looked up from one of the papers he was grading, only to find a furious Mary Jane
"Dragging others down just because you couldn't do shit, and you still can't"
Philip slammed his hands on the table as he shot back up
"Take. That. Back"
His face was inches away from his daughter and his teeth were gritted, but the girl was unfazed, and just replied with a strong
"No"
The teen glanced over to Gayle, who was shaking her head, begging her to stand down, but it was in vain
"Mom had to give up on her dreams because of you"
She then pointed at her sister
"Even Gayle had to give up everything just to keep up with you. And all you do is loathe in your misery"
"As if your little band is ever going to work. You're too young to understand"
Mary Jane took a step back as she continued to glare at him
