One week ago...

Gideon had just woken up from his operation. While he had some high levels of endurance it didn't prevent the doctors from putting him under and on transfusion.

He sat up slowly to get a bearing of his surroundings. It didn't look like the medical bay that all the soldiers used for injuries. The blinds by the window were closed and there was a chair by his bedside that looked sat on recently. He thought carefully and realised where he was. 'This is the recovery room. The last thing I remember was being carried on a stretcher.'

He lifted the covers and saw the bandaging around his thigh. 'That girl... is actually crazy. The Commander had said something about her mother leaving her something.' He sighed and scratched his head as he tried to arrange his thoughts.

'A woman who met the Commander and left him something for her daughter to find years later. That could mean she knows about our organisation and what we do.', he mused. 'But then given how things escalated, she probably just wanted to know what her mother left for her.'

"The real question is what could her mother have left for that girl to come here?", he asked out loud. The fact that the Commander didn't really seem shocked by her presence means didn't escape Gideon but no one could have anticipated for things to have happened the way they did.

"Well there's no time like the present.", he said throwing off his blanket and using a button, called for assistance.

The man who came with a wheel chair didn't want to let Gideon out of bed but since Gideon was his superior and he hadn't received other orders, he begrudgingly helped him into the chair and led him out of the room. "Thanks Jeremy I owe you one.", said Gideon cheerily.

Jeremy stood at 5 foot 10 and like his fellow soldiers kept his hair short. Brown skin and brown eyes completed the ensemble. "Sir I still don't think that you should move around in your condition.", said Jeremy.

"Time waits for no one and there's no time like the present. Besides, one of my brothers might actually kill a certain person if I don't do something. They can be quite protective.", he said with a worried smile. Even among other recruits and soldiers, Gideon's charm and honesty made people less hesitant to follow whatever he said.

"You should go report for your third briefing at ground base." "Sir I don't have....", Jeremy trailed off as his watch beeped and to his surprise, a notification came up for a briefing at ground base.

By the time he looked up Gideon was out of sight. 'How did he even know?!', thought Jeremy as he jogged off to the elevators that would take him to the ground floor.

Gideon wheeled off down a corridor and was stopped by three recruits. "Sir have been instructed to take you back to your room.", one of them spoke. It took him the rest of the week to keep escaping his room and trying to find the room Subject 12 was kept in.

Gideon crossed his fingers as he pressed a button on the side of the door for it to open. This door looked promising and he was getting tired of searching for so long. 'Hmmm we really should get her name.', he thought.

Present

The first thing Anastasia heard was a constant beeping sound. The pillow under her head was firm and the faint smell of fabric softener wafted through her nose. She kept her eyes closed as she strained to hear anything particularly distinctive. The hum from an air conditioner. Gentle ticking of a wall clock. After a minute or two, she opened her eyes and looked around.

She would have guessed she was in a hospital if it were not for the one-way mirror, the harsh ceiling light and four security cameras in the room. Glancing down her body, she saw metal cuffs chaining her legs to the sides of the bed and zip ties holding her hands together.

She was in a hospital gown and felt uncomfortable without her hidden knives as she looked down her arms. An IV bag hung above her head but the clear liquid wasn't dripping and the needle wasn't unwrapped yet. 'What happened?' , she thought.
Flashes of the explosion entered her mind as if to answer her question. She remembered screaming and sobbing. The pain was unbearable, like her brain was pounding against her skull.

The door to her room slid open. And Gideon wheeled in, dressed from head to toe in his fuzzy blue gown and slippers. His eyes met hers and they stared briefly as the door behind him closed. Gideon cleared his throat awkwardly. "Uhh hey. You're probably wondering what's going on but no worries haha no one died so...it's all good", he ended softly.

Anastasia never felt so awkward in her entire life right in this moment but she kept her calm demeanor as she waited to see if he would say anything else. "I'm sure you remember me. It's been about a week since that day and I have quite a few questions. Are you willing to cooperate?" Gideon didn't want to use his gift to try and get answers but it would come sooner it later.

The door opened again and this time the Commander, Brent and Dominic walked in. Dominic walked right up to her face and crossed his arms. "Just so you know, we aren't taking no for an answer." Anastasia met his eyes with little bit of fire in her own. "You're not going to kill me considering you've kept me here for a week."

At this point Anastasia was just tired. Clearly someone at The Grey Leagues wanted her dead and these were the only other people left who had any connection to her mother. Her options weren't much. She could run but she'd be running for the rest of her life the moment that person, whoever it was, found out she was alive. Not to mention these people would probably chase after her too but the only way she could reach a concrete decision is by getting more information.

She looked at the Commander. "It's simple. You tell me what my mother has to do with this place and I'll tell you what you need to know."

A/N: In all honesty, I can only say I had a hectic year and I just didn't have it in me to write anymore but I'm going to try so here's to moving forward :).
