Vampire Drabble 5 part 2

Start from the beginning

Aiden pulled the jacket closer to his neck as if that would do anything to protect it if Brute went for it. Or he tried to, Lex pulled it down again, turning as he drew symbols on his skin - part of the cleansing ritual. Dustin laughed, fangs remaining out and flashing, licking his lips, and he prowled closer to Aiden. Aiden sat frozen as his eyes charmed him into place. A hand covered them, and the spell broke.

"Dust, you're not allowed to induct," Lex said, voice ringing with enough power that Aiden's heart sped up again. That wasn't normal vampire magic; it was older stuff than that. The magic that ancient coven rulers used. Who i

"Yes, great and wise older brother," Dust saluted. " I live to obey your command."

Lex growled.

Aiden edged off the chair, aiming for the door. The last place he wanted to be in the way of a vampire argument.

"Stay," said Lex. Power pounded through the word, but a rub to his shoulder gave a softer air.

Dust rolled his eyes, but his smile turned more reassuring. "Skittish. Relax. We're brothers, sire or not; arguing is part of the game. We know better than to brawl with humans in the firing line."

Lex hummed disapprovingly. "We'll remove those lingering curses on you and give you back to Shaun."

"You," Aiden cut himself off. Facts that is what Shaun taught him to use. Felix sired Dust. Felix spoke too causally to be an old vampire but had coven master magic. Young vampires with the ability to sire meant two things.

One, the older they got, the more powerful they would become. It took a lot to sire the next generation, and more vampires needed to wait until they hit a century before the magics let them. Felix and Dust were brothers and young; that hadn't happened here.

Two, Felix was on his way to forming a vampire court. Sire vampires were fiercely protective over their creations. From how Felix talked about Shaun, that likely included the man, and by extension, him if the hunts were anything to go by. They'd barely let go of him all night. Felix knew Shaun. He joked about Shaun's lack of communication skills. He'd deliver Aiden back to Shaun with a demand to name-drop.

A game unravelled around them. A shame asking the important questions would be stupid, dangerous and maybe more confusing than enlightening if they wanted Aiden to be in the dark.

Felix sang a song in the old tongue. The air hummed with him, Dust joining in as the tempo deepened. His hair stood on edge as sparks zipped through his skin and crackled on his clothes. The air chilled. A light burned over Felix's head, and blood dripped down his cheeks in a strange contradiction. He walked behind Aiden, vanishing from sight.

Dustin had no light; shadows settled over him like a mist. Everything swallowed up around him, and Aiden's tongue turned heavy. He was used to magic. It flowed like water over him and through him. The dark sludge of curses dripped off him and gathered at his feet. He closed his eyes and tried not to notice as it fell from his shoulders and dripped from his fingertips. He clutched to his magic, refusing to let it unleash as something different spiralled around him.

Teeth traced over his shoulder. He tensed.

The bite hurt in more ways than one. He pleaded. The song didn't stop, but a hand rubbed over him, even as arms pinned him still.

The next time the world moved, a hand rubbed over his back, and his head rested in someone's lap. Shaun's scent blanked him, and warmth kept reality at bay as Aiden enjoyed being protected. His neck ached, but the rest of his body floated.

"Awake?"

Aiden hummed uncertainly. Something important lingered at the edges of reality, but the warmth and softness kept it away. Walking up meant facing what had happened. He didn't want to do that.

A/N: Shaun is a hunter, he ended up being the father figure for a bunch of brats who ended up in the world for <insert reason here>. Felix, his first tagalong/child, gets turned into a vampire. The vampire didn't quite expect Felix to be powerful enough to sire, and Felix pretty much decides to turn all his siblings and Dad to create a court. (Normally, he would have killed them; everyone is flummoxed by this). Shaun failed to save anyone but refused the bite himself. Felix is hurt by this, (don't you want to be with us forever, Dad? :( ) Then comes along another teen, angry and desperate to kill the things in the shadows. Shaun does his best to keep Aiden from the others, but they find out. Felix is not happy. He won't turn Aiden until he's ready. Aiden is unnerved by the fact he had a coven of vampires willing to kill for him and confused as to why Shaun doesn't use them better to his advantage.
