~Your POV~

I'm just a cadet in the castle guard, but I know my way around a sword. We were paired for training and I got paired with Link, the Princess's personal bodyguard.

I may be good, but I ain't that good.

"Uhhh Captain-?" I ask.

"I put you with Link for a reason, (y/n), now go train."

"Yes sir!"

Link and I duel it out with the training and it ends in a stalemate.

"You're really good at this." Link says through pants.

"Thanks." I say catching my breath.

"(y/n), Link, your presence is required in my office." the captain says. Link and I look at each other and go to the captain's office.

"I paired the two of you together because I knew you both were at equal skill levels. The princess needs all the protection she can get from the Yiga, so (y/n) that's why you're being chosen as one of Zelda's body guards."

"Whaaaa..."

"The king specifically asked that the one who can put Link in a stalemate be the other guard, and you did just that."

"We're going to Lake Kolomo to the Garrison, so you can get a feel for it then." Link says.

"O-Ok.."

:Time skip a year:

I've been one of Zelda's body guards for about a year now and I've gotten used to it and a lot more confident in my skills. I've also gotten closer to Link and to Zelda. We're at the castle and I get the urge to practice a bit of archery while Zelda is having a meeting with her father and the general on how we should progress with the Divine Beast excavation.

"Loooonk!" I say.

"Whaaaat?" 

"Wanna go practice some archery?" I ask.

"Sure." he says, "Have you heard about that Rito? They say he's the best in all Hyrule."

"I haven't heard about him, but I have heard about that 9 year old from Hateno? They say she's really good."

"I know that there's talk to hold a competition in a few days." Link says.

"I know that's why I wanna practice against you to see how much competition I've got." I say.

"Oh you're on." Link says as we make it to the archery grounds. 

We practice for a while and then call it quits when our arms are so tired we can't pull the bow back. We're laughing as we joke about our 'noodle arms'.

"Link, your arms are some very well toned arms. I'm the one with noodle arms." I say wiggling my arms.

"You're one of the Princess's body guards, there is no way in hell that you've got noodle arms." Link says.

"Nah, I gave out quicker than you did." I say stretching the muscles used as best I can.

"By two shots." Link says doing the same. I laugh.

"But still, I don't see how we're one the same level." I say somewhat under my breath.

~Link's POV~

(y/n) is in their head again, thinking that they don't deserve to be one of Zelda's bodyguards because they don't have a piece of the triforce.

"(y/n) look at me." I say stepping in front of them, "I may have been able to go for longer, but you had much better accuracy than me, and all the while kept that look on your face. You deserve to be at the side of the Princess. You deserve to be here." They smile awkwardly and look down a bit.

"I just don't have a triforce, makes me feel less than almost."

"But you're not 'less than'. We don't even know what my part does other than say that I carry the Master Sword and Zelda is the one to seal Ganon away; shes the important piece of the puzzle." I say as we sit down in one of the castle halls.

"I guess..." They say. They're trying to get me of their back so they can go back to being in their head about all this.

"I know this weighs on you, (y/n). I would be lying if I said it didn't weigh on me."

"Thanks Link."

:Competition Day:
~Your POV~

We're at the competition and Zelda is there with her Father the King so we can prepare for the competition since we're competing. I see so many different races here from Human to Hylian to Gerudo and Rito. We're called to the line and we shoot our first round, Link and I make it through and we make it through to the 4th and there's only 4 of us left. Me, Link, this Rito kid, and a 9 year old Hylian.

"Final round! The first one to split an arrow wins and will be dubbed the 'best in all Hyrule'!"

We knock our arrows and I aim and release, followed by the others. We knock our second, I release and I'm off by the width of and arrow. I groan and then Link releases, same thing with him.

"I guess we wait for a cease fire." Link says.

"Nah I think that kid from Hateno is gonna get it." I say. They release and they split the arrow with the Rito following suit.

They deduce that the Hylian kid is the best of all hyrule with the Rito coming in second being the best of the Rito, and then Link in 3rd.

Of course he got higher than me, he was the first choice.

They get on the podium and I applaud my friend and I see the Rito kid being all cocky that he's best of all Rito and the kid has hair covering one side of their face. I tilt my head in curiosity as I get a gut feeling. Link comes over to me.

"Those kids are gonna do something great one day." I say.

"Yea, yea they are."
