Imagine being former best friends with Matt and you think that it's your fault you're so distant now

You bit the nail of your thumb, chewed on it, while staring at a text message you had written for Matt. He and you used to be close once, you spent time together and had fun and shared secrets to each other. Your bond was strong and you felt lucky to have Matt in your life, but somehow, you drifted apart.

There was really no proper explanation why it happened, it just did. You were both too busy to hang out together and when you'd have time you were tired. And when finally, you had a break from school and Matt wasn't working in Mystic Grill for a brief while, it just didn't occur to you to ask if he wanted to go see a movie or anything. You stopped spending time together and you barely texted anymore either, once in a while necessary messages but you didn't have those long awesome conversations that kept you up to 3 AM.

It made you sad. And you felt like it was your fault. Like you didn't put enough work to your friendship and because of it, it fell apart and you and Matt stopped being best friends. There was really nothing worse than a great friendship dying down, and all you could do was cling to the memories you had created together.

Matt missed you too, though, but neither of you tried to mend the distance between you. Until now. You pressed the send button and watched how the message sent itself, and arrived to Matt's phone some time soon.

You : hey matt have i done something wrong ? because we used to be so close but now we just aren't and i feel like it's my fault. please tell me if there is anything i have done and i'll do my everything to make it up to you

You : because you're awesome and i need you in my life

You tugged on your lower lip with your teeth, and waited for a reply which came very soon, despite Matt working currently in Mystic Grill. He had returned to work after three weeks of free time, and you felt somewhat sad for him, although he loved working there. He was a great guy overall.

And you missed him.

Matt : no of course not Y/N, you're still the coolest girl in town and i swear from the bottom of my heart you haven't done a thing wrong okay you're awesome too

Matt : i know we've been distant lately and i have no clue why, i'm super sorry about it but if you're free tonight i could take you to the movies after my shift at work

A smile pulled up your lips and you let out a happy sigh before writing a reply to Matt, your hopefully new best friend. You missed all the silly talks with him and judging people together and pranking your common friends. You missed hugging him, and slapping his shoulder playfully and messing up his hair which you knew annoyed him but all he could do was love you for the little things you did.

You : i'd love that

You : thanks matt i'm really glad i just want us to be the way we were

Matt : me too, don't worry bout it you know i love you til the end of the world

You : cheesy

Matt : :(

You : okok i love you too i'll see you tonight

Matt : i'll pick you up at six !! :)

Matt : i gotta go to work now byeeeeeee

You : have fun matty ;)
