The one day I have an excuse to sleep in is the one day my body prevents me from doing so. It's 10am, a sleep in for some  but not for me. I was hoping to remain in the beautiful land on unconsciousness until at least midday but no, I have to be awake at 10. Freaking. A.M.

What's even worse is that Alex is not beside me like he was when I fell asleep. Sitting up, I look around his room, lit up by the sliver of daylight peeking in from behind his drawn curtains. Alex is nowhere to be seen, unlike my bag sitting at the end of the bed. That wasn't there last night. Alex's absence makes me uneasy. Maybe it's just because I rarely wake up without him by my side. And maybe it's because I'm telling him today.

I don't know what to expect from him but his reaction will be different from the others, and not in a good way.

At least he only likes me. If he loved me it would be so much worse and I would feel like an awful human being. No, I would be an awful human being.

I lie back down and focus on steadying my breathing, trying to calm myself down.

What am I worrying about? It's not like we will stop being friends or whatever it is that we are. It can't happen. It won't.

"Ugh," I groan, rolling onto my back. Stop thinking.

"Time to get up!"

Alex is standing in the doorway, fully dressed and ready to go. He even has shoes on.

There are multiple questions puzzling me:

How is he not hungover?

Why is he dressed?

He drunk a lot. Seriously, no hangover?

Why is he awake before me?

I decide to voice the first question, pulling myself into a seated position.

He responds with a shrug. "I don't get hangovers. I mean, I have a bit of a headache but that's about it."

Huh. Right. Isn't that considered to be a superpower of some sort?

"And you're dressed because...?" I trail.

"Because we're going on an adventure!" He seems thrilled about this which confuses me further.

"...Mmkay?" I mumble, phrasing it like a question.

"It's a surprise. But you've got to get up so that we can go. How soon can you be ready?"

I frown, my brain overloaded with information. "Uh..." I already forgot what he asked.

"An hour? Maybe 2? Considering how well your brain seems to be functioning this morning." He winks at me and I feel the need to throw something at him, but I'm only surrounded by pillows and they won't make a big enough of an impact.

"Prick," I huff, stretching my arms above my head.

"Grumpy," he smirks.

"Annoying."

"Grumpy."

"Idiot."

"Grumpy."

"Find a new adjective."
