There are
memories that rest
in fog-shrouded graves
that revisit me often
in ominous waves
that haunt me
with intensity,
and residual grief,
stealing away happiness
like an insidious thief,
and I may try
to rebuff them—
I may fight to be free—
but my neglected heart
will listen to every demon's
darkest plea.
