5 YEARS LATER.

Los Angeles,
United States of America

vanraj :

"I don't even understand how you could do this! Now I have to do all the chores alone!", Baa was ranting over the phone.

"Baa, Anupamaa was my wife not your free maid servant that you are being all tragic over doing the chores of the house.", I said simply.

I was reading the papers for a new deal.
"Huh! You don't understand! And that wretched girl! You know Kanta told me that you had a daughter-"

I paused for a moment.

"But then that Anupamaa, she refused to even let anyone see. Now she's not even staying in Ahmedabad!", Baa stated.

The little glimmer of hope, faded away instantly.
"Baa it's very late and I need to go back home.", I stated before hanging up.

The clock ticked three in the morning.
Another twenty four hours spent in the office.
I almost enjoyed being alone in this huge building. It was fun.

Toshu was probably asleep by now. He had become so self reliant over the last five years. He did all his work by himself, I wondered if he was even happy with his choice of me.
Nonetheless, he never said anything so I chose to believe he was happy.

I sighed the deal papers finally and kept the pen back into the pen stand.

Five years.
Sometimes I wondered was it even worth?

I drew in a deep breath and stood up.
Tomorrow was a Sunday and a much needed holiday.

I picked up my phone, now a brand new Apple 4S.
Yes, I legit jumped from an average blackberry to an apple.
I strode out of the huge cabin.
The cabin of the National Head of my Company.

You can tell I was working like mad for the last five years. I was supposed to be here for a month only but since I was too obsessed with my job, the CEO thought it would be a great idea to post me here,
Permanently.

I walked out of the building into the parking lot.

The car stood alone.
It was a dark blue audi.
Thank my company for that.

I sat back and started the car.
My personal playlist started,

"Main koi Aisa geet gaun..
Ke aarzo.. jagau.."

My heart skipped a beat.

Anupamaa's favourite song.

You probably think the last five years were really amazing for me.
I thought the same initially, but then I realised -

My happiness was never really in being a rich man after all.
It was in being with my family, with my kids..
With her.
