“Okay” I simply said

“About the divorce” Mom added

“I guessed that” I nodded

“And school” Mom added again

“Alright” I agreed

“And your dad’s job” Mom finished

“What would you like to talk about first?” Mom asked me placing her hand on her lap

I needed to know what would happen with me and Achilles, I could learn to adjust to my living situation but I needed to know what to do about Achilles.

“Dad’s jobe please” I told her

“Okay so um…your dad's job demotion is um…very bad” Mom told me, I could tell she was looking for the right words, mom wasn’t always great with words, she thought too hard, considering people’s feelings and what she should say and leave out.

“How bad?” I asked

“Well he was really grumpy in the beginning so he wouldn’t tell me but then he calmed down and told me more when you had your secret sleepover yesterday” Mom started out and pulled out a small notebook

“Okay so basically what happened is that your dad was here” Mom said and showed he a stick figure on a high building made of rectangles

“And he was making a bunch of money but then his boss pushed him down all the way here” Mom continued and turned the page to see father now on a smaller rectangle

“Now he’s making less money” Mom told me

“Why was he pushed down?” I asked

“Well he said because his boss gave his position to his son but I don’t think that’s true, you know how your father is” Mom jokes slightly and elbow my arm

She wasn’t wrong through father had a way of making things not his fault; when he was stressed and yelled at us it was because of work, when he was angry and broke something it was mine or mom’s fault for making him mad.

It could never be his fault

“Now your dad is depressed because he has less money and more time at home” Mom finished

“What would you like to talk about now?” Mom asked me

“School” I said immediately, I needed to know if me and Achilles would still be together

“Oh well that some good news” Mom said excited and grabbed her phone

“Well your dad said no unless I do something about it and I did” Mom said and handed me her phone

I took it and saw it said registration competeled

“What’s this?” I asked confused

“I read your school policy and I found out that of you work at the school your child gets to go to the school tuition free, so I registered to be an assistant teacher and got the job” Mom cheered by clapping

“How?” I asked, I knew mom wasn’t dumb but I didn’t think she met the qualifications to be a teacher

“Well I do a have college degree in education just after me and your dad got married I got pregnant with you so quickly that I couldn’t do anything with it but now I can” Mom said

“Now you can stay at school and do your student counseling” Mom said and hugged me

“That..that's amazing” I said and hugged her back, I held her tight then the sudden realization hit me

The divorce we still need to talk about that

“So the divorce” I said as we moved away from each other

“Well that's a bit sadder” Mom said trying to sound positive but even her naturally happy personality could make this easier

“Well me and your talk also talked about who would live where last night and I said I could move out and live with my sister” Mom told me

“Aunt Ariadne?” I asked confused

“I only have the one sister” mom giggled

Aunt Ariadne was the older sister and the sibling I saw the most, mom had 2 other brothers but we hardly ever saw them.

“I’ll be living in the guest bedroom while doing teacher stuff” Mom proclaimed happily

“Your dad will be here and since we’ll see each everyday you’ll be spending summers and breaks with your dad” Mom told me

My entire body shook, me and dad are never alone for long times but I guess we will cross that bridge when we get to it.

“Okay when are you moving out?” I asked her

“I’m already sending my things to Ariadne house I’ll leave when you do” Mom told me

“Okay” I agreed

Mom smiled and kissed my forehead as she walked out of my room leaving me alone, I grabbed my phone and clicked on Achilles number.

“Hey” he said

“Want to do something?” He added and I immediately said yes
