"Win because you don't know how to lose"

November 8, 1943

Evelyn's pov

Today was the first day of classes, the first one being Potions at 11:30. I got up and dressed in the classic Hogwarts uniform consisting of a button up, a green and silver tie, a gray sweater vest, and a skirt in jet black. Not to mention the sheer black tights and gray knee high socks to keep my legs warm from the ever cooling temperature. I opened the small box that held my wand and dagger, picked up the white stick of an object and held it in my hand, slipping on my shoes. I headed down to the Great Hall (making sure to grab my robes and put my wand in its pocket) for breakfast before the meal was over, grabbing a quick and easy piece of toast making sure to spread butter on it to eat.

After I was done with my food I went outside for a stroll around the lake, noticing how all the other students seemed to have their own place in the humongous grounds of Hogwarts. Whilst looking over at all the fellow students I recognized another Slytherin and went over to say hello.

"Good morning, Nott." I say, greeting the boy.

"Good morning to you too, Fowl," he replies, "but please just call me Max."

"Very well then, good morning Max," I add, "and if I get to call you Max, you can call me Evelyn."

"That's very kind of you Evelyn," Max remarked, "may I ask you a question?"

"You just did. But yeah, it depends on what it is."

"Is it true that you've been disowned?" he asks seemingly curious.

"First Lestrange and now you. It must be some very important information for you lot."

"Perhaps we're just curious," he reassured me, but I know there was a different reason.

"About me or the rumors," I questioned him.

He sighed, "Maybe both."

"Well you're not going to get any information out of me for a long time," I shoot back, "might as well give up now."

"I shall let Seb know not to pester you anymore," he told me. "Well I must be going now." He then walked away once he was out of sight. I decided to go back to the common room.

When I got there I made sure to go to the correct dorm, stepping inside I was greeted by Ifer. I should probably let him out and fly soon. I thought to myself as I went to pick up Pride and Prejudice to continue reading.

By the time I looked back up from the pages of my book it was almost time for Potions, so I stood up and grabbed all of the supplies I would need for my upcoming class and started towards the new classroom. The halls were still quite unfamiliar to me despite the small tour given by Riddle yesterday.

The eyes of other students still followed me wherever I went. Some out of fear, others I'm not fairly sure. Though I was quite positive that they wouldn't be stopping any time soon.

As I approached the new classroom, I noticed both Slytherin and Ravenclaw students were walking into the room and sitting down in their desired seats.

I step into the room and take a seat next to Walburga, the other girls seated on the side parallel to us.

"Guess what," the girl says, "I got some new quills, made from France's finest peacocks. They're a weird shade of green though."

I responded unenthusiastically, "Interesting." None of the other girls seated at the table responded to the bragging.
