Maddy comments, this makes Meredith push her head from her shoulder and force the girl to stand up "Go out there and go get surgeries before they take them. Go! And I want a full report by the end of the day." And with that all the residents leave, ready to start the long day ahead of them

A group of residents head into the ER which is completely crowded probably due to the closing of the Mercy West ER, after one of the newbies suggested zones to help prevent chaos both Madelyn and Lexie being put in the same zone were now walking the hospital hallways with their Mercy Wester who seems nice, a little eager though

"Thanks for being my tour guide through all this first-day madness." The brunette says to the two girls "Well, we all got assigned zone five, so..." Madelyn replies "I know it's not like you had any choice. Still, you're a peach to pretend otherwise." Maddy grabs a clipboard from one of the nurses as they pass the nurses station "Being the new kid is..." the Mercy Wester continues but is cut off by Lexie saying "Is scary I know", the brunette continues again "Of course, you were here when that psycho-intern cabal was marching around chopping out each other's organs." This made Madelyn laugh knowing full well Lexie was one of those interns, Lexie on the other hand does not look impressed but doesn't have time to respond as the girl had already walked up to their patient, making the Maddy and Lexie share a look before also making their way towards the patient

"Hi, I'm Dr.Kepner" she says cheerfully but the girls smile quickly disappears "Oh, handcuffs"

"I'm not an ax murderer. I just broke in to someone's house. Dude came after me with a golf club, Beat the crap out of me. Look, you don't need the cop. I can barely move." the patient responds "Roll him,Oh we'll keep the cop"

Madelyn rolls the patient over while Lexie starts the examination, and the perky brunette scribbles stuff down in her red notebook "He's got multiple contusions and ecchymosis over his back. He's gonna need lumbar and thoracic films. Down. Okay, and by the way, it was one organ ... an appendix. It wasn't a psycho cabal." Lexie says referring to the comment made earlier. "Oh good to know" Madelyn and Lexie both glare at the girl who is starting to become irritating

Lexie is going over the patients scans with Derek "T&l spine films showed a burst fracture at t-12. And here you can see evidence of instability Because the vertebral height loss is greater than 50%, Which implies both A.L.L. And P.L.L. Are disrupted." The patient then asks "What's that mean? I got a broken back? I'll still be able to walk, right?" Derek looks at him "You will still be able to walk, burgle, and Have a full life. Ideas?"

Madelyn goes to suggest something but is interrupted by her brother "Not you Mads" Madelyn glares at him "Well actually" She tries again "Dr.Shepherd you have spent plenty of time on neuro let someone else have a go" Madelyn stops knowing he's right I mean she did grow up with 5 siblings who all turned out to be Doctors so it is an unfair advantage

"Decompression via corpectomy and reconstruction with strut graft and anterior instrumentation." Lexie offers "Wow. I might be out of my league here." the Mercy Wester says "Well, she has a photographic memory. We're all out of that league." Derek responds "And here I was thinking you could do transpedicle screws with a posterior approach. Seemed like a good idea, but, you know, maybe not."

Madelyn looks at her brother who is taking a closer look at the scans "Let's go with the pedicle screws. Okay, get him into pre-op, and let me know when his test results come back."
