INT. DENTIST OFFICE #1 - LIGHT - MINUTES LATER
An X-RAY of a client's mouth shows on a computer screen. The client, a woman, averts her eyes to it. Elliot points.
ELLIOT
That tartar will have to be scaled for above and below your gum line. You'll also need root planning.
CLIENT ONE
Okay.
Elliot prepares to work. He places a white covering around her neck the places on RUBBERY gloves. He LOWERS the mechanic chair. A shiny tray of tools is beside the chair.
ELLIOT
The numbing should have
kicked in by now. Has it?
The CLIENT nods.
ELLIOT
Good.
The office door OPENS, Sonya. She waves him over. He squints her way.
ELLIOT (CONT'D)
(to client)
Excuse me.
CLIENT ONE
Okay.
He STROLLS to Sonya.
SONYA
Cindy is out sick. Does that mean
we have to split her roster? Six clients?
ELLIOT
(quietly)
Umm...
Elliot scrunches his face in deep thought.
ELLIOT (CONT'D)
(hushed toned)
I'm not sure how that would work.
SONYA
I'm thinking the same.
(whispers)
Even if we work through lunch, that leaves 4 appointments.
ELLIOT
(quietly)
True...it sucks but they'll
have to reschedule.
SONYA
(hushed toned/regretful)
That feels shitty, though, they're all waiting. I wouldn't mind the overtime.
Sonya eyes the client, giving an awkward grin. Elliot follows her gaze.
SONYA (CONT'D)
Anyways, I'll let you get back to work.
Elliot returns to the mechanical chair.
ELLIOT
Right...we'll talk at lunch.
SONYA
Alright.
Sonya EXITS.
INT. DENTIST OFFICE - LOBBY – LIGHT – SECONDS LATER
A carpeted, lobby. Customers sit on sofas, some TYPE on phones, others read magazines. Bryant enters the building; snow BLOWS in heavily after him. Flakes land on a welcome mat; slowly melting into its cloth.
The front doors closes. Bryant BEATS snow off of his slick shoes then WALKS over to the reception desk.
RECEPTIONIST
Hello. How can I help you today, sir?
BRYANT
Is Elliot Knox in?
RECEPTIONIST
(nods)
Yes he is, but he's pretty booked. If you don't mind waiting, I'll see if I can schedule you...or are you scheduled already?
