Chapter 13 ᯽ Trip Down Memory Lane

Start from the beginning

I started wiping down some of the cafertieria tables while saying, "I warned you your little girlfriend wouldn't have our back, now look at what she's gotten us into," without even turning to face him.

Because we weren't happy with how WICKED was handling things, Thomas and I had earlier been caught stealing some blood samples to study on our own. However, Teresa was present, so she came up with a lame excuse and managed to somehow still get us into trouble.

When Thomas threw the mop to the ground and turned to face me, I felt as though daggers were being thrown at my back, "I know, okay? You don't need to remind me."

When I had finally finished wiping down the tables, I laughed a little and turned to face him, "She may have saved our asses this time, but Thomas, you are aware that she disapproves of what we are doing. You won't even recognize when she betrays you because you're too in lo-"

When a door clicked open behind us, I almost immediately stopped talking. As I turned to gaze in that way, I noticed the familiar girl with jet-black hair and blue eyes staring directly at us.

Teresa slowly walked up to us while I scowled at her. Thomas nudged my arm in an attempt to get me to stop, but I ignored him.

She would always put on a show for Thomas, seeming innocent and having him wrapped around her finger.

"Thomas, Y/N," she said as she stepped in front of us both and gave us a kind nod.

"We don't have all night, Teresa, so get on with it. What do you want?" I asked as I crossed my arms.

I noticed a trace of malice in Teresa's eyes as she turned her attention away from me and toward Thomas, "You and Y/N can't keep acting in this way, Thomas. You already know that WICKED wants to advance the greater good rather than sabotage it."

I hummed, "Borringgggg!" in her face while pretending to yawn. When I noticed her eye twitch and realized I was obviously grating on her, I couldn't help but smirk.

"It's either her or me, Thomas, you have to make a decision."

When I sensed the tension between Thomas and Teresa, that's what truly took me off guard. I made the connection and realized that they must have previously had a conversation that was similar and Thomas had kept it from me, "Wait, what?"

"Of course, I'm going to pick her. I need her by my side, she's my sister!"

Thomas caught my attention as I noticed his desperation; he appeared hurt as well as angry.

Teresa responded, "Very well, that's all I needed to hear," while keeping her gaze fixed on Thomas.

I couldn't help but look at Thomas as she started to leave the cafeteria and ask, "So are you going to tell me what the hell that was about?"

"Let's just wrap this up," he said, shaking his head and turning away. I made the decision to stop pressing the subject when I saw the pain in his eyes.

~THIRD MEMORY~

Guard uniforms were nicely folded and arranged on the racks all around Teresa and I as I had initially noticed them in the dimly lit storage room we were in. Earlier she had pulled me aside and said she needed to talk to me and that it was urgent, but when I brushed her off, she mentioned that it was about Newt, which naturally made me feel inclined to talk to her as soon as possible.

"What do you know about Newt?" I instantly inquired in an effort to learn any knowledge she might have.

She sighed and scanned the area, avoiding my gaze, which, as she later said, "He'll be sent up into the maze in less than a week."
