Part 1 - Welcome to Our World

Juliuz: I'll... take that as a "yes." But if anything in here makes you feel uncomfortable, just let me know. (They walk in.)

Juliuz: Just warning ya, it'll be quiet in here for now, but once our sisters- Emerald and Rosie- get home, it'll get a lot louder. (Kiyoshi looks around.)

Echo: Oh! Emerald and Rosie! What time is it? So much time passed while we were getting Kiyoshi clothes, and we're supposed to get them from school! (She snaps.)

Juliuz: Carp, you're right! And we're late. But it might be best if Kiyoshi stays. (Juliuz glances at the time on his phone.)

Echo: You go get them. I'll stay with Kiyoshi.

Juliuz: Are you sure?

Echo: Yep! Now get going! (They talk.)

Juliuz: K, I'll see you two in a few minutes! (He runs out the door.)

Echo: Okay, Kiyoshi. It looks like it's just you and me for a little while. (Shot of Echo.)

Kiyoshi: [very quiet] Yes, just... you and me. (Echo's surprised as he talks.)

Echo: Oh, Kiyoshi, you've got it! It was so quiet, but you said everything perfectly! I'll bet you'll get your voice soon. Ooh, I can't wait to hear what you have to say! (She hugs Kiyoshi.)

(Meanwhile, Juliuz quickly walks through the square.)

(He picks up Rosie from preschool. He smiles at her. She enjoyed school and skips away.)

(They approach Emerald's school. Emerald is by herself on the stairs leading to the entrance of the school.)

Juliuz: Emerald! (Emerald has her phone out. She looks a bit upset. Her tie is draped over her backpack.)

Juliuz: I-

Emerald: You're late. I've been waiting for at least an hour for you! Where were you? And where's Echo? I thought both of you were going to pick me up.

Juliuz: I know, and I'm sorry. Something came up, and-

Emerald: You were distracted with your new girlfriend, huh? (Emerald stands up, upset.)

Juliuz: No, I've told you before, Echo and I aren't dating.

Emerald: You basically are! You've had a lot of time with her lately.

Juliuz: Well, we're not dating. We just work together.

Emerald: Uh-huh. (Emerald walks down the stairs and joins Juliuz and Rosie.)

Juliuz: Look, I'm sorry that I'm late. But something really came up today. The agents found these two kids today who were really needing our help. I hope you don't mind, but one of them is staying at the apartment for a little while. (Juliuz kneels down to get on Emerald's level.)

Emerald: Oh. *huff* Well, I guess it's fine. If that's REALLY what happened.

Juliuz: Thanks, Little Em. I knew you would understand! (She still looks slightly aggravated.)

Rosie: So, we get a new brother or sister? Like how me and Em became sisters?

Juliuz: Oh, do you consider her your sister now?

Rosie: Uh-huh! Em's fun! Except when she's mad like she is today.

Juliuz: That's nice. Anyway, I don't know if he'll be staying very long, but I guess he could be a new brother.

Rosie: Yay! (Emerald's on her phone as she walks.)

Juliuz: Hey, who are you texting?

Emerald: Violet004. She got out of school a little bit before I did, so I was talkin' with her when I was waitin' for ya.
