I was mortified; instantly snapping back to reality.
Jess and I were sitting far too close to each other for it to appear in any way innocent or merely friendly. Johnny knew Jess and I had a bit of history, so seeing us together like this... I felt awful. My body went cold; my stomach dropped to my feet. I was horrified by what his reaction to finding us in such a compromising situation might be.
Jess shifted beside me, her eyes darting to Johnny standing just a few feet behind the two of us.
We hadn't really done anything—not even kissed. But it was written all over both of our faces that we weren't exactly innocent in our intentions, either. My eyes met Johnny's in a panic. I mean, was I seriously about to cheat on him right now? What the hell is wrong with me? I was filled with instant regret, the sense of dread deep within me growing by the second.
To my surprise, when I caught Johnny's gaze, he was... smirking at me.
What the hell?
A look flickered across his face that made my insides do somersaults. I furrowed my brow back at him as if to say, what are you smiling at? Shouldn't you be furious?
Johnny did not look angry, rather, he looked almost amused. "Don't stop, baby." His voice softened, his eyes darting over my body entangled with Jess's on the couch in front of him.
