Walking into Hawkins high, was the same as any school.

The kids were the same, the chatter and the bell was the same.

The school looked like any other school.
I'd been to enough, to notice.

I'd reported to the front desk, assigned my locker and schedule and reluctantly made my way to my first class of the day.

"Everybody, we have a new student today. Give a warm welcome to Quinn Reed."

The half assed, tired mumbles in response were the same.

I rolled my eyes and took a seat near the back, spotting a familiar face.

Eddie.

He flashed me a wide grin and I smiled back, with a small brief wave.

"Yeah, she's out of your league, freak."

I heard everyone laugh, as I leaned around my desk, and kicked the chair in front of me, roughly.

The body turned around in the seat to stare at me in shock and frowned.

"I'm out of yours, Jock." I answered, which was met with more laughter.

"Settle down. That's enough, Jason."

"Hey! Hey, wait up!"

It took me a moment to realise that someone was shouting at me, as I made my way to the lunch hall.

"Hey, hey you!"

I turned to see the jock from earlier running to catch up to me, waving me down like a mad man.

"What?" I asked, abruptly.

"Listen, I think we got off on the wrong foot earlier. I'm Jason."

"Yeah, I figured." I answered, shrugging.

"You're new here, aren't you?" He asked.

"Wow you're observant as well as obnoxious." I noted, sarcastically.

"I won't pretend to know what that means." Jason answered, awkwardly.

"Anyway..... why don't you sit with us at lunch?" He continued, which stopped me dead in my tracks.

"With you?" I repeated.

"Yeah." He said, smugly.

"With you and all your other little jock friends?" I asked.

"Yeah....?" He said, frowning.

I continued to walk, trying to shake him off but he continued to follow behind me.

"Well, why don't you?" He asked me.

I spun around then, losing my cool.

"Why the fuck would I want to sit with someone like you, huh? Who thinks it's funny to call someone a freak in front of the entire class, for kicks?" I asked.

"HEY! NEW GIRL!"

I heard him before I saw him, and found myself grinning broadly.

Eddie.

When my eyes finally fell on him, I waved happily and turned to Jason.

"You're gonna ditch me for the freak?" He asked, in disbelief.

"Abso-fucking lutely..." I replied, before pushing past him.

"Hey! Sorry about that." I said, when I finally reached the Hellfire table.
