A/N First time Alec visits Magnus unannounced, feeling more and more comfortable. Fraying away quite a lot from the Clary plot to give attention to Malec and have a happy story with no Valentine and Jonathon. Even though the sadness with Jonathon will always be the best.

Alec and Jace were on Patrol, but Alec's thoughts were slightly far away. Last night had been Magnus and Alec's fifth date, and Alec was feeling so much more comfortable with the warlock. They'd eased into holding hands, and honestly, Alec had never felt happier.

"Earth to Alec! Thoughts elsewhere?" Jace grinned.

"Shut up."

"And what were you thinking about?" Jace asked, and Alec had to be happy for Jace too: he seemed to have found a girl, a girl who stumbled into their life uncalled for, raised a mundane, but turned out to be a Shadowhunter. The Institute, and especially Jace, were helping her with the whole situation after she had lost her mother.

"Just... Um... Magnus," Alec blushed.

"How long have you been seeing him by the way?" Jace asked.

"Just over a month. He's... Quite amazing," Alec sighed.

"You're really happy with him, aren't you?" Jace said.

"Like I said... He's wonderful, and so caring, and understanding," Alec explained, "He's made me really happy."

"That's great to know."

And just as Alec and Jace were walking through New York, a display in a shop caught Alec's attention. It was a jewellery shop, and on display was a necklace, with the pendant being an irregularly shaped amethyst.

"Hold on," Alec told Jace and went inside the shop, quickly purchasing and pocketing the necklace. Jace raced a quizzical eyebrow.

"For Magnus," Alec said whilst blushing. This was the first time Alec had bought something for Magnus; there was no occasion, the necklace simply reminded Alec of Magnus and the small piece of amethyst Magnus had shelved in his loft.

"I suppose you want to get going to the loft now?" Jace asked with a knowing smirk.

"Well," Alec considered, "Yes. But you're important and I don't think you can be trusted alone. So I will keep you company."

Patrol lasted until two in the morning and Alec didn't know whether to show up at Magnus' unannounced, or to wait for a timely hour. He did know Magnus kept late hours (proved by the stargazing they'd done at three am on their third date), but he didn't know whether he'd be intruding.

He decided he may as well test his luck and, after hugging Jace goodbye, sprinted to Brookly, calling up to Magnus.

"WHO DARES DISTURB THE HIGH WARLOCK?" Magnus yelled, voice sounding a little tired.

"It's Alec."

The door opened and Alec bounded up to Magnus' floor, and Magnus stood at the doorway, face glowing. His face always seemed to glow if you asked Alec.

"To what do I owe the pleasure?" Magnus asked, "If I knew you were visiting, I'd have worn something sexier."

Magnus was, Alec noticed, wearing comfort clothes, and the fact the warlock even owned comfort clothes surprised Alec. It was just loose joggers and a looser T-shirt, only one necklace dangling around his neck. His hair was still in spikes. And yet Alec found this simple Magnus just as attractive as the dressed up one and Alec leaned against the doorway.

"You still look really nice," Alec said truthfully, "And um I just finished Patrol. Wanted to see you. I can go away if you're busy or tired."

It wasn't an accusation, just a statement, but Magnus (he was translating a book for a client) decided some things were worth procrastinating work for.
