I couldn't really explain it, but from the moment I closed the door behind me last night, I couldn't stop thinking about Erick. That mysterious chemistry, or rather the chain that drew me to him long ago, was still there. And to make matters worse, I cursed myself all night for not inviting him to my house. We could enjoy a bit of casual sex, satisfy old desires, and then pretend nothing happened in the morning. But I couldn't find enough courage in myself for that.

"You won't believe what I experienced yesterday," I said to Sam, whom I ran into in the corridor after entering the hospital. Sam was my former medical school classmate and the only one of my friends who chose the same hospital as me for his residency.

"Good morning to you too," he greeted me, which I completely forgot.

"Sure," I rolled my eyes in amusement. "A pleasant good morning to all of Chicago and especially to you, dear Sam," I exclaimed happily, grabbing his forearm.

"Considering the fact that you don't smoke like a barrel, alcohol probably isn't behind your high spirits," he said and continued calmly walking towards the elevators.

"What do you think I am for," I poked him in the ribs with my elbow, insulted.

"Yo," he growled and several people looked at us in disgust. "Hey, be a little considerate of patients."

"I am," I smiled. "But you are not my patient."

"Get out of here. I know very well that if you don't tell me now, then by lunch break you'll either explode like fireworks on Independence Day from so much happiness, or you'll be bombarding me with texts all morning, and I really have no idea at this point which would be the better case."

"God," I snapped out of him. "But you're in a fighting mood today."

"At least you have her for both of us," he replied and called the elevator. "Then speak," he urged me. "Did you manage to finish your final thesis?"

"No," I sighed. "I didn't get to her at all yesterday."

"And why is that?" his eyes shone with excitement. "You went to the bar in the middle of the week to have fun without me?"

"No," I rolled my eyes. "I sat at home all evening, I just couldn't concentrate."

"And that's the exciting news?" you were teasing me "Or have you finally met a jerk?"

"I don't know," I beamed. "But I bet my brother wouldn't agree with you."

"The fact?" he raised his eyebrows, unconsciously letting me know that he was finally interested in my story. "How did you find out?"

"That would be a long time," I waved my hand. "In short, he played with his grandmother, you know, in a pleasant way, and thus ended their long-term friendship."

"Idiot is an understatement," he replied and stepped aside so that I could enter the elevator first. Sam was always a gentleman.

"Maybe," I said and pressed three on the display.

"And what made you so angry that even today you can't catch your breath properly?" picked up.

"Well, he," I growled when he couldn't get enough of it.

"Don't talk," he turned sharply to me. "Did you sleep with him? After what he did to your brother?" he widened his eyes at me in disbelief.

"No," I put my hand on his shoulder.

"But you would," this time he laughed and I blushed.

"I used to," I admitted.

"You still want him, just admit it," you started teasing me.
