Humans do irrational things.

One particular individual had taught me that in the past.

As Siesta asked me to be her partner, I couldn't help but wonder if this was one of the irrational things humans do.

If so, back then, could I have called her a partner?

"Partner?" I retorted to her, not knowing what she specifically meant by that.

"Yes, I would help you, and you would help me, like a partner in crime," she explained to me gleefully.

I was aware that she was intrigued by me and possibly by my past, yet I didn't foresee that her interest would be as intense as it was. Especially since, from an outside perspective, I was unremarkable.

"Of course, if you want, we can be partners in the romantic sense," she teasingly commented with a wry smile on her face.

"I already made that clear to you, didn't I?" I asked, undeterred.

"I know. I'm just telling you in case you change your mind," she replied.

The majority of boys, no, actually every other boy would be overjoyed if a girl like Siesta wanted to be with them.

The offer sounded like a harmless offer, and although help is not a bad thing, I couldn't help but feel dubious about the offer, which didn't go unnoticed by her.

"You have doubts about my offer, am I right?" she asked while she was glancing at me. I nodded slightly as our eyes met, indicating that she was correct to some extent.

"Why would I need help?" I asked promptly, trying to switch the subject.

"For example, what do you have planned for this class poll?" she asked me.

"There's not much I can plan," I declared. For someone who avoids any kind of attention, there was no real need to plan anything, since I was neither the class leader nor in any danger.

Nevertheless, Siesta was not contented with my answer and proceeded.

"Suppose someone had it in for you, would you allow yourself to be expelled?" she asked me as she gave me a rather stern stare.

"That wouldn't happen," I answered simply, without batting an eye.

"That's a hypothetical question," she explained.

It seems to be more than that. Although the likelihood of someone like me becoming a target is rather minuscule. Needless to say, I was aware that there was a possibility that I would be targeted.

"I would avoid exclusion."

"How sure are you that you can avoid exclusion?" she asked me by tilting her head to the side.

"One hundred percent."

After my answer, there was a brief silence in which we both just shared glances at each other until she finally resumed the conversation.

"Even if you had to get rid of one of the quintuplets instead?"

"Don't misinterpret. I don't have a problem with one of them being expelled nor do I have a problem forcing an expulsion from one of them."

Perhaps it sounded harsh, but this was the reality. If it had to be done, I wouldn't hesitate to expel either one of them.

Siesta appeared to have expected an answer like that, but there was still a hint of surprise on her face. A few instants later, her expression regained its complete composure.

"I see, but wouldn't it be better to have help to avoid such a situation in the first place?"

"I suppose you do have a point."
