"Alcina..." you furrow your eyebrows and take a few steps towards her with parted lips "What is this?" you whisper as you try to take in her entire look.

"Like it, baby?" she bites her index finger "It's for you. Fits the occasion." she winks.

"Do...do you think this is a joke?" you slow down "Do you think-"

"Joke?" she furrows her eyebrows "Joke?! JOKE?!" she walks to you "A MONTH! I'VE BEEN WAITING A MONTH FOR YOU TO COME BACK FROM THAT WRETCHED..." she grinds her teeth "And you call this a joke."

She hastily removes the lace choker from her neck and her hat and veil then proceeds to walk to her vanity.

"Alcina." you sigh. You know she's different and desperate for you. You know you should be more kind but-

"I've waited for you..." she shabbily removes her eye makeup with a small cloth "I dress up for you. I try to get you to notice me, but..." she proceeds to remove her lipstick.

"Alcina, forgive me. I-"

"But it's all so amusing to you." she throws the cloth on her vanity table and without giving you a glance, she stomps to the wall and pushes it open. She quickly disappears inside, leaving you standing alone in the room. You sigh as you hear the taps opening and thunderously hitting the bottom of the pool of a bathtub. You wait until you think she has settled in and walk inside.

Her back was against one end of the pool and to you. Her body faced the big window as she looks out into the dark abyss. You sigh and walk to her slowly.

"Honey...are you alright?" you ask. She stays silent. You sigh and close your eyes "Listen, I didn't mean to say-"

"I almost gave up on you." she whispers. You open your eyes and look at her back. The dim light scintillated her muscles.

"Most nights. When I'm alone here. In this room. Without you." she continues in a dour tone of voice "Even the cold air beneath my wings wouldn't calm me."

You wet your lips and bite them to hold in a few tears. You take a few more steps towards her.

"And she'd come here." you could hear her grinding her teeth "Everyday." she spoke with a clenched jaw "And she'd tell me you were alive."

"Honey..."

"She wouldn't tell me how you were, what you were doing...or even if you thought of me." she sobs.

"Honey, I thought of only you." you sob and kneel down behind her, placing your hands on her shoulders.

"One day, she came in with a glow on her face. And I knew that-" she lets the tears escape as she looks down and cries "Do you know how it feels to sit here and..." she cries.

"Honey, I'm so sorry." you rest your forehead against her head and sob.

"I couldn't do anything. I couldn't do anything to bring you back! For the first time, I felt helpless!" she holds your hands.

"Sweetheart, I'm so sorry." you open your eyes and look at her. She had turned her face to face you but her eyes were still on the water.

"And you think this is a joke." she whispers.

After all this time, she never failed to take your breath away. Her beauty would never cease to amaze you. Every time you see her, it would feel like she has become more beautiful. You see how she went from wanting you, to loving you. In a long time, you saw how much your lover loved you. You didn't see her as a broken, untameable beast like everyone else did. You saw her for who she was- a woman who was willing to wait for you despite knowing what you were up to with Miranda.
