80 ❥ epilogue pt.2

Start from the beginning

"What did you do?" He asks.

"I'm the one who set fire to Springdale church on September 15, 2019," I admit.

I watch as his jaw drops a bit.

"Why?" He asks calmly.

"I was mad about what Pastor Ben did to my mom. I wanted him to feel the same amount of pain she felt when he hurt her. But I wasn't thinking about all the innocent people that were also in the church." I say.

"So is this you turning yourself in?" He asks.

"Yes," I mumble.

"Alright, son-" He starts and begins taking out his handcuffs.

"WAIT! If I may ask one thing-"

He pauses for a moment before nodding.

"You know how close Alyssa and I are and I didn't tell her about me coming here. I didn't get to say goodbye. Could you please arrest me after I get the chance to say goodbye to her?" I ask.

"Asher-"

"I promise I won't try anything, I'm done running," I mumble.

"You know I can't do that." He says.

"Please! After you arrest me and my dad, she'll have no one." I beg.

He thinks about it for another few minutes before tucking the handcuffs away.

Thank god.

"You better not run." He says.

"I promise."

"Alright well, I need you to tell me where you'll be at 6 pm tonight." He says.

"Why?"

"That's when I'm going to come and arrest you and your father." He says.

I tell him that I'm going to be at Xanders and he lets me go.

Not before telling me that he will also be arresting Pastor Ben.

I get back home around 8 AM and find my dad in the kitchen.

"Where have you been?" He asks.

"Had to meet up with Jess and Xander," I say.

He nods his head but doesn't take his eyes off of me.

"What?" I snap.

"I'm proud of you Asher." He says.

Holy shit.

I almost dropped the carton of milk.

That's how shocked I am.

"What did you just say?" I ask.

"I'm proud of you son. I know that I haven't been the best father but you managed to pull through high school with good grades and now you're going to college. I'm proud of you." He says before slowly walking up to me and wrapping his arms around me.

I stand there frozen.

What is happening?

My dad hasn't hugged me since...

I can't even remember!

I slowly begin to awkwardly wrap my arms around him.

"Thanks," I mumble.

I pull away after a couple more seconds and begin making my way upstairs.

Of course, he's a decent dad the day I fucking turn him in.

Mother fucker!

The rest of the day goes by way too fucking fast.

I keep looking down at my clock to see if it's six yet.
