It was my first year of college. More specifically, my first day. Waves of students passed by me as they struggled to make it to class on time. Me? I was struggling to make my legs move. I was completely and utterly frozen.

I mean, it's the first day, and your first impression is what makes or breaks you. All my life I've been known as that Goth kid; the one who's a bitch to everyone and who doesn't care about anything. But that's not true.

Ok, well most of it. I admit I can be a bit... what's the word... cruel, sometimes. It's not like I want to be like that; I have to. It's my only choice.

I must have been standing there for a while, because the sound of the first bell brought me out of my thoughts.

Crap.

I gathered my stuff and ran through the halls, my mission being trying not to bump into anyone or drop anything. But, of course, my mission failed. Correction: both of my missions failed.

My books went flying as I crashed into an oncoming person. I landed with a thud as people rushed around me, not caring one bit.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" I heard a voice say as I struggled to pick up my stuff. I looked up to see a gorgeous girl standing in front of me.

"Yeah, you should be." I said coldly. I know what you're thinking; why in the world would I say that? Well, she's a fake. I can see that, and I'm not going to be nice to those types of people. They don't deserve it.

She looked confused for a minute, but it quickly turned to curiosity. "Oh." She said, looking at me, almost studying my face. "Well, I better go to class, so bye I guess..." She gave me one last look. "...and sorry."

I was confused. I was just completely rude to her, yet she was still nice to me. Well, more or less.

Waves of people continued to rush past me, and finally, I joined them.

"...Room 217, Room 2017..." I muttered to myself as I walked around the campus halls, still trying to find my classroom 2 minutes after the bell rang. I passed by a couple of people, who I'm guessing were also trying to find their classrooms in this maze of a school.

"Hey, wait, are you trying to find room 217 too?"

I stopped and turned around to see where the voice was coming from. Coming towards me was the most perfectly handsome guy I have ever seen in my life, with the most perfect smile spread across their face.

He stopped in front of me. "Music composition, right?"

I nodded. "Yeah."

"Ok, well I'm trying to find that room too. Maybe we could search together?" he gave me a wink.

"Maybe no." I replied, and turned to walk away.

"Hey! Wait."

I stopped and turned back around. "What?"

He looked me in the yes and muttered, "What's wrong?"

I glared at him. "That's not your problem."

"Well maybe I want it to be my problem."

I laughed coolly. "Well maybe you should just leave me alone, considering I don't know you. Not even your name."

He grinned at me, and stuck out his hand. "The name's Nicholas, but everyone just calls me Nick. And you are...?"

I sighed, finally giving in. I knew I couldn't win this one. I took his hand, and said, "The names Annabelle. Everyone just calls me Annabelle."

He grinned. "Well I can see you've got a sense of humor."

"Not really."

He gave me a questioning look, but I just ignored him. This Nick dude was seriously getting on my nerves.

"Well, we should probably get to class, yeah?" I said; eager to stop the conversation.

"Yeah... no. I mean we're already really late, so why don't we just leave? It's not were going to be doing anything on the first day anyway." He responded, a mischievous look in his eyes.

I sighed. "Sure, I don't really care, but I'm not going anywhere with you. I'm just going home."

He frowned. "But... I thought I was making progress... besides, my parents are home, and if I go home, they're going to kill me." He looked me in the eyes. "Please."

"No."

"Please!"

"No."

"Yes."

"No!"

"Yes!"

I just rolled my eyes. "Fine, you can come home with me, but this is a one-time thing. It's never going to happen again, and you have to leave as soon as school is over. Ok?"

He grinned, and looped his arm through mine. "Let's go!" he said, as we walked out of the building.

"You are so gay." I muttered my breath.

"Hey, I heard that!" he exclaimed.

"Yeah, that was the point."

He frowned again. "Bitch."

"Why thank you."

He gave me an astonished look. "You are the weirdest friend I have ever made."

"Whoa, hold up a second." I stopped walking. "Let me get this through your seemingly thick head. We. Are. Not. Friends. I'm just doing you a favor. I don't want friends." I muttered the last part to myself, not exactly wanting him to hear it. Luckily, he didn't.

He sighed. "Well I'm not going to give up on you." Then he gave me a strange look. "I want to figure you out."

"Whatever. It's not going to happen, I'm telling you now."

"Yeah, ok, keep telling yourself that." He winked. "By the way, how long of a walk is it to your place."

I smirked. "About 45 minutes, so you better be up to a long walk."

"Yay; Just what I wanted to do today." He said sarcastically.

Well this should be fun.
