UNEDITED
IVE BEEN SICK AS HECK.

Novalie:

"You okay?" Sage asked as we walked inside. The ride home from the diner was quiet, Sage picking up some groceries and deciding that she'll cook some burgers for me. The weather was getting a lot warmer now, so I wouldn't mind sitting outside and watch her use the grill.

"Yeah I'm fine. Do you want me to-"

"Baby, sit down. I can see the worry all over your face." Sage breathed causing me to huff before sitting down on the couch. I couldn't help but worry despite letting go. Victoria always chose herself and I didn't want Claire to be lying about what really was going on. It wouldn't sit right with me if she was in the streets and I didn't help.

"Here..watch some ratchet tv and chill. Okay?" Sage asked as she leaned in and took my shoes off my feet before kissing my swollen ankles.

"What if she's not telling the truth-"

"Novalie. Mother to my child. My lover. I love you but shut up." Sage groaned as she stood up causing me to pout up at her. She leaned down and kissed my lips softly and I moaned as I kissed her back.

"Doesn't matter. It's not your concern anymore. What your concern is our sweet little baby in your tummy, and to eat. Okay?" She asked as she bent down and kissed my stomach. I sighed and nodded as I rubbed my temples.

"Okay okay."

"Maybe when we're finished, daddy can help you relax." She whispered as she kissed my ear before walking away. I smirked as I rubbed my stomach as my eyes followed Sage to the kitchen.

"This is why I'm pregnant."

"Do you think she's really okay, Sage?" I asked as I stared down at her with a pout. We were in bed, fresh out of the shower and she was now rubbing my feet. My ankles have been swollen but it's because of water retention. She kissed my toes before looking up at me with a sigh.

"You're really worried about her, aren't you?"

"Yes. I am, I'm very worried. I thought I wasn't but I am. That was my first child if you think about it.  I don't know..I just..yeah I'm worried." I groaned as I ran a hand down my face. Sage chuckled and crawled up my body before placing a kiss on my cheek and rubbing my stomach.

"Stop worrying. I'm sure she's okay. She seemed really put together at the restaurant despite what she said happened. But I know you and I know your mind wont calm down, so how about you talk to her? Hm?" Sage asked as she kissed my neck. I moaned softly and groaned before nodding before smirking.

"You always know what to say, huh?"

"Duh. That's why you love me."

"I'll text her. It's still a little early so maybe she's still at the diner." I sighed as I grabbed my phone. I swallowed hard as I stared at her number for a second before sighing.

'It's Novalie. What time do you get off work?"

Claire immediately read the message, the read receipts popping up under my text bubble. She started to type but stopped, the bubbles disappearing causing me to swallow hard.

'In thirty minutes.'

"Think we can get some chicken wings while we're there?" I asked as both Sage and I stared at the phone. She looked up at me as she laughed before nodding and kissing my stomach. We got dress in silence, Sage putting on one of my sweatsuits even though it was a little tight on her. It made me laugh causing her to poke my butt before grabbing her keys.

I couldn't help but allow my thoughts to turn. Something just didn't feel right about this and I rather find out now than find out when something bad happens. I know my mother and how selfish she could be when it comes to her stuff. So I can't imagine her just letting Claire off the hook about passing her credit card limit.

I know I wouldn't have.

"Just breathe. Whatever happens, know I'm here for the both of you. Okay?" Sage whispered as we pulled up in front of the diner. I nodded but gasped quietly as I saw Claire standing next to a taller woman with purple hair. They were talking, Claire inhaling from a joint before passing it to the woman who smirked down. I would've been mad but the look on both their faces couldn't help but make me smile slightly.

Claire likes a girl? A person? With boobs?

My thoughts were interrupted as mine and Claire's eyes met and hers widened as she roughly handed the woman the joint causing her to grow confused. They both stared at the car and I stepped out.

"Go, go I'll see you later." Claire whispered as she lightly slapped the woman who just smirked before looking at me. She had deep brown eyes, her purple curls sitting in a bun at the top of her head. Her skin was a little lighter than Claire's, her height a drastic difference compared to my sister.

"It's okay. I'm not busting you." I chuckled awkwardly causing Claire to chuckle while rubbing the back of her neck. The purple haired girl smiled before leaning down and kissing Claire's cheek, causing Claire's eyes to widen.

"I'll see you tomorrow. Text me."

"Okay."

Both Claire and I watched the tall girl walk off and I looked at her with a smirk causing her to sigh while rolling her eyes with a smile on her face.

"Who's that?"

"It's no one-"

"Claire."

"She's just my friend I met. She's cool."

"Yeah, okay. You ate?" I asked as I opened the door to the diner. She nodded her head but walked in with me and I walked over to the check out area.

"Can I get a box of wings? The 20 piece with the hot sauce and barbecue on the side."

"Anything else?"

"Two milkshakes...and mozzarella sticks. Yes. And marinara on the side." I hummed as I rubbed my stomach, the baby kicking my foot causing me to grin.

"Here..use my discount." Claire handed the woman a red card and she scanned it. I smiled appreciatively and watched as the woman walked away before walking over to a table and sitting down. Claire sat down with me and I felt her eyes melting onto the side of my face and I looked over.

"You look so happy."

"I am." I responded as I cleared my throat. She smiled sadly and nodded as she looked down at her hands before looking up at me with tears in her eyes.

"I am really sorry. You've done so much for me and I didn't want to accept the fact that you're the only one who ever would. Not having any friends at school, teachers picking on me-"

"See you didn't tell me all of that. You didn't have to take it out on me the way that you did-"

"And I know that now. I just...you were finally smiling and weren't tired all the time and I just...I didn't want to throw all of that on you. You are so happy with Sage and I was tired of feeling like I was in the way. And now I messed up and it hurt me every single night after you told me to never come back. I felt so alone, and mom didn't make it any better."

"I told you she wasn't a saint. You had to learn the hard way didn't you?" I asked as I touched her wrist. She hissed and pulled it back causing me to furrow my eyebrows.

"Claire-"

"It's nothing."

"Claire." My voice was trembling and she sighed before letting out a small sob. She slowly pulled her sweater back, her wrist swollen with finger marks wrapped around her skin.

"Who-"

"Please. Don't do anything. Don't say anything. I already left, I left okay? I've been staying at the teen shelter on Madison. That's where I met Asia. Please." Claire sobbed and she tried to hold it in but she couldn't, as if she's been holding onto that burden for a long time.
