Part. 6, The End Of My Happiness

Start from the beginning

He looked down at his hands, what was once a warm tan, is now a pale gleamy white. He stared for a moment, spacing out until Liu patted his shoulder." Alright, Jeffery?" He asked, and the male nodded. His cheeks burned as he attempted to frown while he directed his dull forest eyes downward." Alright, well, ready to leave everyone?" Margaret said gently.

She remembered something like this. When she had to take her little seven-year-old Jeffery home from the police office.

He was so silent, staring down at his body as if it was the most disgusting thing in the world.

That was the day she had to give up on her child. She used the excuse that he needed his space after what happened, but she really was just scared and disappointed with herself.

"Yeah!" Liu said for the both of them, wrapping a reassuring arm around his brother as he smiled softly.

She won't do that again, she convinces herself.

Jeffery just leaned into his brother's shoulder, starting at the carpet of the car. It smelled of cigarettes and blood, the car. He wasn't sure what to think about that.

Everyone had noticed a few different things about Jeff other than his appearance now that they acknowledged more of him. His voice had gotten husker and much deeper from a couple of years ago, while his wounds grew way too fast. He seemed to have a witty personality but Liu knew most of it was dark humor, much to his distaste.

When Peter stopped for food, Margaret noticed how neat Jeff was with cleaning his messes. Peter noticed how much Liu clung to his brother, caring for the other like how he wanted to with his siblings.

This was stuff they thought they would have noticed years ago if they paid more attention to him. What they didn't know, was half of this was unlike Jeffery.

Nonetheless, they'd never pieced it together even if they did realize it. No matter how hard they tried, they could never truly care for Jeffery as they should've. Perhaps, half of his trauma was from his parents neglecting him, perhaps it was from that incident ten years ago, or maybe it was just Randy's fault. Either way, that day, the day he killed two kids, the day he lost his body, his identity, was the day Jeffery Alan Hodek died.

And the smile Killer was born.

Margaret and Peter both share a sigh, walking into the house as the sun set slowly behind them." Alright, guys, maybe we should hit the hay, it's been a long day." Jeff nods in agreement, as his bones aches, while Liu smiles boyishly." Come on Jeffery, Let's go, I think mom added stuff to your room." He grabs his younger brother's hand and drags him up the stairs, the raven groaning in reply," I'm going to get motion sickness if you move me so fast.."

Margaret smiles, and removes her jacket once they vanished upstairs." I'm glad he's not upset at least. It's a good thing he likes his appearance." She states as she leads her husband into the living room, him holding a wine bottle that they had on the counter from the neighbors as a get-well gift.

He brings two wine glasses, and sits down next to her." It's better than hating it. Like then..." He shook it off as she looked over to the glasses and chuckled at her look of question.

"Really? The boys aren't even asleep yet." "It's fine, not like a little drink will do anything." He says, watching as she took her bun down, before sighing." Alright, I suppose we deserve it." Peter smiles and hands the glass over.

One drink led to another, as it always does, and by the time Liu and Jeffery were asleep in their respective rooms, Peter and Margaret had both stumbled into their bedroom, Margaret hiccupping from how haggard she had gotten.
