It seemed his recovery was going well because he wasn't in the body cast anymore and was now just in normal bandages. But... it was jarring. His brother's expressive hair was covered, leaving only his round eyes to leave indication of his identity. They were less round actually, which was off as his long eyelashes gone and that would usually make them bigger. Only the bridge of his nose showed, but his skin was this off tan of what it used to be, the sun basically skidding off him like it did Elizabeth's blond hair. His fingers, that were wrapped around the curtain, shook, and his revealed fingertips were badly scarred, leaving a red inflamed surface.
Liu gave a wary smile, yet he confidently comes over." Hey Jeffery." Jeff's head tilt, before he let go of the curtain and leaned back in his own bed, and by his own right his own pillow arch.
Liu took in his side table, covered in various things— homework, flowers, and letters. From the expressive hand-righting he recognized his aunt.
She lived in North Dakota and had her own pair of kids, but Liu knew better than anyone she would have dropped everything and made her way down here if it wasn't her daughter's risky sickness that tied her down. It was for that reason she resorted to sending two letters a week and a handful of phone calls a day, worrying herself to death over her favorite nephew. She had assured them that she'll be down here as soon as she's recovered.
"Well I'll be. Mr. Jail time paid me a visit." He jokes softly, and Liu gave a hasty laugh, relieved mostly." I'm glad you seem to be doing okay." Jeff shrugs lightly, and Margaret smiles, tears pricking her eyes. Beth wore her own smile, finding the situation odd but personal to Jeffery himself.
Liu and Margaret had stayed the full three hours, chattering with Jeffery and Beth as they tell them stories of what they've been doing, explaining their days of freedom outside treatment and recovery.
"Alright, you two. It's time for Jeffery's treatment." The doctor walking in and saying had broken the tizzy of their conversation, and Jeff groans, making the three laugh ." Fine-e, see you, Liu, bye ma'am." They return the farewell and finally leave the two so they could rest.
It's only once they'd settled into the car and we're all buckled up that Margaret turned to her son, catching the small tear drops dribbling down Liu's face. Margaret jerks, her face falling as she rest her hands on his shoulder in alarm.
His eyes were no longer cold, and she could recognize the warmth in them. He gazed at her no longer with determination, but this relieved acceptance.
"Are you alright, dear?" "Yeah." He nods, a smile resting on his face. She realizes the tears are of relief and sighs with her own smile." Everything's going to be alright Liu. for all of us. I promise."
He nods again, falling into her open arms easily and letting himself fully sob into her shoulder.
It may have been late when they arrived home, but it was with a burden lifted off their chest when they did.

Liu and Margaret both sigh, sitting on the couch as Peter brought out two bowls of rice and chicken for them." Sweet and sour, just for you two." Liu smiles, and takes it willingly." Thank you so much, dad." "Thank you, dear." Margaret smiles, as she wraps a scarf around Liu's shoulders.
She had heard about his scarf with the doctor and got so upset, she decided to give him one of hers. It was a light gray, with dark green. Two of his favorite colors, so she thought he'd enjoy this one more. Let's just say, he was thrilled to have one of her scarves, tightening it before he tucked in.
Peter sits down on the couch across from them, and starts eating his meal." So," Margaret starts, and they give her half their attention." I talked to the doctors today when visiting Jeffery. They told me that he might be able to be let out next week!" Peter looks up, perplexed but glad." Really? Hasn't it only been a few months?" "I know, they said it was miraculous, his cells seem to be working even faster than before, healing him before the medicine even could start doing what it's supposed to."
