Part. 4, Letting The Bad Thoughts Go☠

The blonde laughed," You two are just so cute! How long have you been dating?"

Jeffery watched her take the money with a disgusted face, Jane mirroring that.

"Uh, gross, we aren't dating." "I'd shoot myself between the eyes, actually." Jane gasped, smacking his shoulder and making him laugh again. Usually he hated people hitting him or touching him in general, but this time it didn't piss him off too much, so he'll let it go.

Whatever you say, honey," The blonde coyly smiled, before turning around," What are your shoe sizes?"

Jeffery hummed softly, ignoring Jane as she got up from their shared bench along the tables to go toward the food bar. He was silently looping his laces and securing his feet to the skates. They were worn and older skates, colored a dull yellow with purple laces, to match the colors the rink took. More colors that made Jeffery want to gouge his eyes out.

The brunette felt at home as soon as he stood up to test out the feel of the shoes. They weren't like the expensive ones he owned, but they still felt nice. When Jane returned, she smiled, holding up the buzzer in her hand to show it to him.

"Are you sure you don't want anything but a soda? I'll feel bad if you aren't eating while I am," "it's fine, I'm not hungry." "Aw, but you paid too,"

Jeffery rolled his eyes, taking his seat again. She settled comfortably next to him, putting down the buzzer onto the dirty sand-colored table. The tables countered the pearly purple floor, and the fabric black walls. The way none yellow and pink lights shortened out above them both made Jeffery's head hurt, and it didn't help that everyone around them chattered loudly as they ate whatever snacks was provided.

"So, where did you move from?" Jane was making conversation. That was normal.

But Jeffery didn't want to talk at all..." New Jersey." She smiled," Cool! I would love to go skating in a big city like that, there's so much space, right?"

"Not really, if you try to rollerskate in public you either get a ticket for vandalism, or some middle age mom reports you. Skateboarding gets a similar rep." "Oh shit, that's weird... I don't know why people are so off put by rollerskating, it's so fun!"

"I don't know..." He uttered, cracking his knuckles as her buzzer suddenly barreled. She jumped up, and rushed to the food bar again.

Jeffery sighed softly, keeping his eyes to the table. He wanted to go home... Not the house in Rosswood, he wanted to go back home, in New Jersey. He wants to return to his childhood bedroom, which reeked of smoke and orange peels. He misses his bedroom walls, where he used to hang his favorite posters. He missed his carpet, which scratched your feet as you walked across it.

And he missed Liu.

"Here we are! This pretzel is delicious, don't know why you wouldn't want one. Here's your coke," She slid it over, and he took the glass bottle with a small thank you.

They both sat in silence, Jane chewing slowly on her food. Once she finished, she moved to put on her own skates, looping them tightly before hopping up.

"You ready? I can help you get over there if you want," "I'm rusty, not incompetent."

She laughed, as they both exit from the table, Jane refastening her bag on her back tightly. Strolling around the groups of people next to them, they both made it to the entrance of the rink with no issues.

Jeffery took a subconscious deep breath, sliding onto the familiar yet so foreign floor. The food court reeked of feet and hand smoke, but on the rink, it was just the burning scent of rubber and disinfectant. Jane slid in next to him, and he took in another scent: her cheap drugstore perfume that she wore to school as well.
