"It's fine. Liu isn't the type of person to harm something, and he'll be let out soon once everyone realizes that." He said, wanting to continue but biting it back.
Jane nods, her sad spirit suddenly dispersing at his words." You're right. Anyway, is this your first time in the town of Rosswood?"
He looked in front of them, just now realizing that they had walked as far as twenty minutes, fighting through the threshold of suburban homes into the sidewalk of dusty old Rosswood. It was nothing compared to New Jersey, though.
Jeffery's eyes trail the sights. What stuck out the most was the cinema just down the block, as there was a huge crowd around it. He hummed," Simple, and very old."
She snickered, teasingly patting his forearm with the back of her hand as she continued to walk. He sneered, but she didn't notice." Funny! Still, this is my favorite place ever. On Sundays, the new cuts down on Auburn give you free haircuts." "Too bad I don't need one." He said, mindlessly counting the seconds until he believes it'll be okay to leave. He was tired...
"Hmm? You sure? You're hairs pretty long. Unless your going for like, a Steven Tyler sort of look." "I'm not a rocker, I just like long hair. You a Aerosmith fan?"
"Oh my God, yes! I actually just went to one of their concerts three weeks ago. It was so awesome." "Huh..."
Interesting. Jane didn't seem like a rock fan... Either way, he still didn't want to hang out with her, but that was cool at least.
"So is this the rollerskating rink?" She stopped suddenly, and turned to where he pointed. She brightened up further, nodding," Only the best one in town! Well, sorta the only one, but that's finer details. Come on! You didn't bring skates, did you?"
Jeffery owned a pair. They were a snowy white, with stark red laces and matching wheels. He remembers doing work at his aunt's house for five summers straight in order to buy them. All that babysitting and housing payed off.
Until just five months later, his mother accidentally sold them during a garage sale. It was so surprising, especially seeing as she had been grumbling about his rollerskating interest since he got the pair. She said it wasn't something normal kids, especially boys, should be doing.
"No, I didn't." She walked up the steps toward the rusty old door, and hastily held it open for him," No biggie, I didn't bring mine either because the wheels actually broke. I literally face planted on them, I think I still got a scar on my nose, might be dislocated," Jeffery uncharacteristically snorted as he entered.
"You look fine." "Oh my God! It laughs," At that, he laughed more, pausing as she entered." I know, it's so bizarre."
Jane was just beaming at the fact he was slowly opening up to her. Jane found it hard to admit, but she didn't have friends... At school, she was overlooked and disliked because wasn't like Jane Arkensaw. Everyone loved Jane Arkensaw: she was head cheerleader, the leader of the student council, soft-spoken, and kind. While Jane Richardson was talkative, loud and sometimes rude.
Jeffery didn't mind that, because he hated everyone no matter who they were. That strangely made Jane feel welcomed. She was pleased even only with his indifference.
They both pass various people, stepping right up to the receptionist behind a booth. The woman was just a couple years older than them, her beach-blonde hair cut into a bob while her skin was reddish from how harsh her sunburn was. She clicked lightly on the gum in her mouth, which turned up into a smile as she saw them.
"Hi, how may I help you two dears?" She said in a chipper tone. Jane smiled," Just two wristbands and two pairs of roller skates please."
She smiled more," Dandy! That'll be five dollars, honey," Jane turned as Jeffery held out the exact amount. She frowned," Damn, I was going to pay!" "Soak it in, this is the only time I won't be an asshole."
