Tidbits of Spring

Sitting on my deck today

With paper and pen in hand

Though still the winter season

Warm breezes run through my land

A tease from Mother Nature

That rebirth is on its way

Birds are singing songs of love

Sunbeams peep through puffs of gray

Shocked to see a robin steal

Ball of bread tossed out for squirrels

Worms and bugs their normal fare

Food scarce in late winter's twirl

Startled by a falcon's swoop

Chasing birds just past my roof

Twists and turns; set rapid pace

Falcon fails; no feather poof

Falcon lands in sycamore

Scanning backyards for more prey

But birds and squirrels are hiding

'Til falcon has flown away

Cool breezes blow in dark clouds

Heavy rain will start tonight

Lingers into tomorrow

We'll return to winter's bite

Grateful for few days of warmth

A small taste of spring delights

In a few weeks spring arrives

New colors tickling eyesight
