I felt a sharp pain run across my arm as I collapsed on my knees. I bent down and started breathing heavily. No. This cannot be happening!

"L-Lucas...?", I mustered up all the strength I had in me and looked down to a limp body lying flat in front of my eyes. Lucas had been shot!

I clutched my arm as the blood overflowed through the bandages. Leaving Lucas on the floor, I helped myself with my right arm to the side where I wouldn't be visible to the eyes of the inhumane predators. I heard a few footsteps running towards me and I painfully got up on my bruised feet and made a run to the opposite side, back towards the building. Luckily, there was a huge pillar which once supported the building, now standing untouched between lumps of broken wood and ashes.

I made a limp to it as quietly as I could and thumped down behind the pillar, panting heavily from the sudden run. I glanced back towards Lucas, who had been shot right in the chest, now being pulled aside by a few of the suited men towards the clearing we had been planning to make a run for. I watched as they dragged the lifeless body near the fence and one of the men picked him up and threw him to the other side of the fence. All of the men then jumped to the other side as I heard a dragging sound all the way until my ears gave up trying to give me directions of the place the body was being taken to.

Letting out a huge sigh, definitely not of relief, I sat worn out on the prickly grass. So Lucas is dead... Why am I not sad? Or angry? Or anything at all? Why do I feel so emotionless about the death of a close friend? At least Lucas did better. He mourned and cried about killing Reece whereas I sat there, totally numb from what I had just witnessed. I mean after all I didn't do any such heinous acts but he was the one who did the killing. I deserve to not feel for the murderer, I thought to myself as a single teardrop fell from my cheeks.

Talking (more like "thinking") about Reece, I remembered the pendant. Lucas had Reece written on it since he killed him. Mine had Tyler written on it. I don't even know a Tyler, let alone murdering one. Well honestly, I do know a Tyler. That stupid jerk at school that never did his homework and bullied the innocent and nerdy kids until they did it for him. I mean how is he to blame? Homework is no joke and it's totally fine to tell someone else to do it for you although his way of telling others do it wasn't the most convenient one...

I let out a small chuckle of a laugh as I remembered the good old days at school. No tension, no worries; just a carefree life with very bad grades! What has my life come to now? Snapping back to reality, I spared a quick glance at my pendant and realised that it was red? And wet? Ew. That's definitely blood!

I looked over to see that my wound was letting out blood copiously due to the hard impact of me trying to push Lucas away from the way. I mean why did I even bother... I glanced around to realise that the hunters had left. I meant all of them. Even the bodies of those who fell victim had been taken to the other side of the long fence. Now my curiosity to discover that area rose even further but first, I had to think of a way to stop the blood pouring out from my arms like waterfall since my bandage was of no use anymore.

Just then I remember the first aid kit that we had left back at where Natalia was rotting. I looked towards the building and realised that I was too weak to be able to climb into the building and actually walk through all those debris and find the exact room where the kit was. Too much work but too less energy. I sighed at my fate and realised that this is how I die. Without anyone around me; just helpless in a field of bloody grass. I have always wanted to die a peaceful death. Maybe in a hospital bed with my family around me, lovingly holding my hands. All of them. Including Reece and my long lost Dad, smiling through the pain. I slowly closed my eyes as the world started to black out in front of me.

I didn't want to die this way...

And I didn't!

I painfully opened my eyes to the sound of...helicopters?! I rubbed my eyes and opened them to see that it was now pitch black. The huge flashlights being shown from the helicopters hovering above were the only source of light in the cold forest. I looked up to see that the helicopters zoomed past the area scanning for, what I assumed to be, survivors; like me! I squinted further through the bright flashes to notice that the same men who had been hunting us were now examining the grounds from the helicopters through the scope of their sniper rifles.

I cowered in the corner as pain slowly continued consuming my body but this time, it didn't hurt as much as it did when I thought I was dying. I looked around to see that it was quiet. Way too quiet. There were no screaming people and no hunters running around. Just two helicopters zooming past every now and then and a seldom rustle of the tree leaves and bushes... Maybe snakes? At this point, I couldn't care less.

When both the helicopters were far away from me, I got up slowly and looked around me. Nothing had changed since I passed out. The building was still to my close right while the blood of the victims was lashed around the ground near the pillars and the tree where Lucas fell victim. I scanned the sky to see no danger coming anytime soon and hobbled towards the tree. Although it was barely ten feet away from my previous hiding spot, I was panting. I slumped down on the blood of my brother's killer as I took deep breathes in and out to calm down my racing heart.
The pains amplified every time I made even the slightest of movements and so walking barefoot on grass was like walking on hot coal floor embedded with sharp pins and needles.

After a few moments of telling myself that it'll be alright, I made up my mind to climb over the fence and discover the area. Maybe there was an exit or even a place where I was safe for at least an hour. I sighed heavily and made sure that the helicopters had gone again.  At this point I had memorised the pathing of the helicopters and had calculated the time I had to make an uneventful run to my seeming escape. I got up again and once I was a fourth way through the clearing, I suddenly encountered a bright flash in front of my eyes. I froze in place and let my eyes adjust to the light when I realised that it was one of the helicopters...

I had been caught!
