It has been 11 days since I have been "grounded" in my room. I sat on my bed and stared out the window. Same old clouds wandering past me, mocking me of freedom. Sighing, I got up from the bed and paced around the room hands tied behind my back.

"Disobeying the King is against the law.", the voices rang in my ear.

"So he is a criminal too!"

"What's his punishment?"

Even the thought of a punishment from my father got chills running down my spine.

A knock on the door shot my head up and I groaned, "It's not even time for lunch yet..." Opening the door, I was shocked to see Father standing outside. My head jolted back in surprise as I corrected my posture and panned my eyes down, "Yes Father?"

"Come with me.", he replied and started walking ever so gracefully towards the meeting hall. I didn't question; just followed.

'And now he remembers me after more than a week?!', I sighed at the thought. I wasn't even properly dressed for a formal meeting but I guess my dad had bigger things to worry about. I mean I was in my pyjamas!

We entered the hall and in front of the throne were stood three people. A boy and a girl, who looked nearly my age, and a man well over his 40s. Father sat on his throne and motioned me to do the same.

Confused, I sat on my throne as I shared awkward glances with the guests. My father cleared his throat and announced, "In front of you are three common people who are going to play a major role in the lived of thousands of people... including yours."

I gulped down in fear as I examined the people stood in front of me. The boy had dark brown hair with eyes just a few shades lighter than his hair. His body language seemed rather strange, almost as if he was terrified and was caught off-guard.

The man and the girl, on the other hand, raised their head up with an air of confidence and had a sly smile on their faces. I couldn't help but notice their strikingly similar features. Both their eyes were light blue and their face shape and behaviours were alike too. The only difference was that the man had light brown hair whereas the girl's hair was platinum blonde. My guess was that she was his daughter with an awful choice of colour for her hair.

"Meet your new friends Alexander.", Father said. "Lucas, Natalia and Tyler." From left to right, I was able to comprehend that the boy was Lucas, the man was Tyler and the girl was named Natalia.

"Lucas-", he continued, "- is the one who is going to eliminate people who are suspicious of our plans and might have an idea about it."

"About what?", I burst out. "What's going on? What have you been planning behind my back?!" I had no fear. I was already on the list of people getting punished! I know I sound exhilarated but it's quite the opposite.

"Calm down Alexander. Let me explain.", my father said as he stuck his hand out, as if to ask for something, and the guards from our right marched up to him and handed him a roll of paper. He opened it and hoisted it to my face level. Drawn on it was a map. the same map that was on the table when I barged into the secret meeting the other day.

"This is the layout of the building all the criminals will be put in. According to the law, only the fittest and the most deserving will be able to make it out but we are going to change the course of law here. Only the chosen ones will make it out alive..."

I was shocked at the amount of evilness that was in my dad. He was going to kill people, for his own amusement, who had done activities that are inscribed in the stupid laws as crimes? UNACCEPTABLE!

"So I'm going to be one of these... criminals?", I winced at the last word I had uttered.

"Yes, of course!", came the reply with a chuckle. "You disobeyed me!", he was now suddenly dead serious with a slight frown forming in between his eyebrows.

"As I was saying, Lucas will be eliminating suspecting individuals, Tyler is going to be the host and Natalia is going to be the bait, disguised as an innocent and confused contestant. This has been years into planning and finally, everything is ready to be executed!", he said with a hint of excitement, which I didn't quite like.

I was done with this guessing-game. "Father", I closed my eyes and sighed. "You have been planning things, which I have zero clue about, and now you expect me to understand your mind games without you clarifying it for me?"

"Game", Father shot up his voice, "It's all a game Alexander Dean Smith." I rolled my eyes. Not with the full names again...

"Those who have committed crimes, broken the laws, everyone will be thrown here. They will be put through a series of extremely hard challenges. It will seem to all be lady luck favouring some of them but in reality, I will be the one controlling as to who lives and who doesn't. You don't have to worry. You'll definitely not die; at least not on my watch..."

I shifted in my seat with discomfort as I felt Tyler and Natalia shoot daggers into me with their beautiful blue eyes. Unfortunately, that shade of blue happened to be my favourite colour and I couldn't help but give an awkward glance every now and then to appreciate it.

"Your grandfather...", he continued, "... always stressed on the importance of fair judgement but according to me, justice is not something achievable here; you get it in the next world. Obviously, I had to take the situation into my own hands and boy oh boy, did my stacks of thriller books come handy..."

"Now leave young man. That's all you need to know for now."

He's never going to speak straight-forward now, is he?
