Before he could reach the door she had locked it. He banged the door, asking her to open it but she just sat against the door. He stopped banging.

Alair sighed and sat against against door as he spoke. "Layla, love listen to me" he said and Layla just closes her eyes.

"I don't want anymore promises, no more promises" she said and whispered the last but he heard her.

"I do love you, I'm not perfect but I want to be the most perfect man for you. I don't want another. No one affects me like you. I've never been attracted to another as much as you. I want you and only you. There will be no other for me. Those years that I couldn't be with you were torture. I know what it's like to see the person you love be with someone else." He said and Layla opens her eyes.

She was listening but she was afraid.

"I gave those drugs to Marianne not because I wanted to hurt you but because i wanted to prove it to you that he isn't the one. The way of doing it was wrong but I can't say that I regret it." Alair said as he looked at the lantern.

"Layla trust me once, believe me once. I'll prove it to you that one chance is all I need" he said and Layla thought about it.

He didn't lie to her, he never did, he wanted to be with her and when she didn't he gave her space. He let her make a choice.

Now when she thinks about it, she had lost that in some cases after moving in with Knox.

"Alair-" Layla said and he hums so that she knows he is listening.

"One chance is all you get" she said and got up. She opened the door and looked down. He gripped her chin and kissed her on the lips. She smiles against the kiss.

They get ready and hurry to Brian's house. It was eerily quiet. Alair asked her to stay in the car and she nods.

She watched him enter.

"Layla I'll enter the house and I want you to keep the door closed. If you see anything call me. Don't step out till I tell you to." He said and when Layla starts to object his look says it all.

She looks down at her phone and nods, Alair's backup was going to be slightly delayed.

She watched him take out a revolver and put it in the back of his pant and held his phone. She looked at him.

"Stay safe"

She looks around the block and it's all quiet. She looks towards the house door again and gasps.

A man had entered through the side window with a pistol. She called him but he didn't pick up.

Alair walked into the house and closed the door behind him. The house was a mess. There were broken furnitur and cutlery all around.

He notices the shadow of a man and pulls out his revolver. Keeping it ready and hiding in the shadows. He heard his phone vibrate and he put it on silent.

The man's shadow gave him away, amateur, Alair thought. The guy stepped forward and Alair shifted to stand right in front of him. Without giving him a second to react, Alair shot him in the head.

He searched the body and took the phone before making way back to Layla.

Layla waited in the car but when she heard the gunshot she rqn out of the car. She stopped when she saw Alair walking out intact.

She wiped away the tears with shqky hands and smiled. She saw Alair running towards her and she frowned. He looked scared.

She turned back to find a hand grab her and pull her in. Her eyes widen but no sound comes out as the van starts driving and the men hold her on the seat with a soaked handkerchief.
