Vince told the guards to standby, causing Alice to screech out, "Dad kicked me out!"

Oh god how could I forget her voice? They were nails on a chalkboard.

"What? Why?" I questioned.

Alice had always been the golden child, she could hardly no wrong in my fathers eye, so for her to be kicked out she had to do something he really did not approve of, or this was a set up.

"Carl Lintrell came and asked for my hand in marriage, but daddy said no! I told daddy I love him and I'm going through with the marriage and he kicked me out!"

"Why did he say no?"

"I don't know Ezra!" She yelled frantically, "All I know is daddy said no to Carl for no reason and I need a place to stay for the week!" She whined.

"So you're here to stay until you get married?" I clarified.

"I can't live with him until we are married, you know that! I have no where else to go!"

I looked at Vincent who was already looking at me and he gave out "it's up to you."

Wow thanks you're so helpful.

I knew it was a gamble as to why Alice was here. On one hand, she was probably helping my father. On the other hand, she's pretty idiotic and unreliable so she'd easily give up her real reason to be here. Plus I knew Vincent would contact Carl and if her story didn't add up, Vincent would kill her for lying.

I was also just super curious, I'd always been a little too nosy for my own good, and this was definitely getting the best of me.

"I guess it's fine if you stay the week. We have a couple spare rooms so just pick one."

"Oh thank you Ezra! I knew you wouldn't let me down!" She reached out to hug me and once again Vincent yanked me out of her reach, and Alice giggled out a, "Oh Vincent you're funny!"

Vincent let out an audible scoff and went back to his office, getting back to work. I decided to help Alice take her stuff to her temporary room, helping her get settled in.

-

The next day after Alice had been unpacked, I figured I would ask her about what happened between her and dad, hoping she would give me more insight if it was just a one on one. She was sitting by the pool wearing my bathing suit that she did not ask permission to use, eating some of my favorite fruit.

I let it roll off my back and approached her from the side, "Hey Alice, how're you doing?"

She forced a frown, "Oh Ez! I can't thank you enough, I just can't believe daddy would do this to me!"

"So what exactly happened?" I questioned.

"Mr. Lintrell came to dinner, you know like how Vincent came to dinner for me and you stole him out from under me," She let out, making me roll my eyes, "But we have been in contact since then and I still want to marry him, so I told daddy that I was to be married next week and he freaked out!"

"So Mr. Lintrell wants to marry you, like for sure?" I couldn't help but ask.

"What the hell Ezra! Oh course he wants to marry me, is that so freaking hard to believe? Jesus Christ you think your so high and mighty married to the Don, don't you?"

"I don't think I'm high and mighty? I was just clarifying the plans."

And making sure that dad's not trying to move you in.

"You know I was supposed to be in this position, right? Had it not been for you weaseling your way in and seducing Vincent, I'd be living here!"

I wanted to laugh, Vincent had already told me he had zero intention of marrying Alice within 30 seconds of meeting her, and I couldn't help but believe him as I'd met Alice before.

"Vincent had zero intention of marrying you Alice, and I didn't seduce him or steal him out from under you."

"Oh typical Ezra! Dad told me the truth, and now your just trying to lie to hurt my feelings. I bet Vincent has talked about me before and your just jealous. You think if I stay here that he'll get feelings for me and leave you, don't you?"

I wanted to laugh, I really did, but I also wanted to punch her, but I repressed both feelings trying to maintain some cool, "I'm not having this conversation with you anymore."

"You're lucky I'm in love with Carl Lintrell!" She shouted at me, as I walked away, going inside to find Vincent. I found him in his study on a phone call.

Once he saw me enter, he grunted out a chaste 'bye' to the person on the other end of the line, and I went and sat on his lap.

"Who was that?" I questioned.

"Carl Lintrell. I was getting confirmation on Alice's story and it checks out."

"Weird. Maybe Alice isn't part of my fathers plan?" I questioned.

"I wouldn't exclude her just yet," He confirmed, "Mr. Lintrell was weird on the phone."

"How so?" I questioned.

"He said he offered to pay $100,000 and David turned him down. It doesn't seem right." He solidified.

"My dad said no to $100,000 for Alice?" I shook my head, "No way."

"Mhm." He nodded in agreement, "Well keep a close eye on them both." He confirmed.

"You think everything will turn out okay?" I questioned, fiddling with his wedding ring.

"We'll be just fine." He stated, gripping tightly onto my waist. And I hoped he was right.
