This is what I lived and breathed for. The adrenaline rush, the work, the crowd, and the completion. Plus the feeling of running full speed ahead on a thousand plus pounds of muscle. What rush.

I sat quietly on my horse while he pranced around waiting his turn patiently. Adrenaline pumped through my vains as I watched another barrel racer exit the arena with a decent time of nineteen something. My red dun Red Dawn pranced impatiently underneath me as another horse that wasn't him raced around the barrels. Just as the next girl excited Red Dawn pawed at the ground. The announcer called out my name announcing that I'd be the last runner of the night.

Red dawn acted as if he was a threatened rattle snake. His muscles recoiled as he waited for the sign of attack. I grabbed the horn with one of my hands while the other one gripped onto the rains just a little tighter. In one swift movement my hand with the reins shot up his neck as my spurs gave him some extra encouragement. Red Dawn's legs stretched out into long strides as his legs ate up the ground.

We rounded the first barrel his strides increased. As we rounded the second barrel I realized why I was here. I was here to win. Nothing more nothing less. As we rounded the very last barrel I looked towards home stretch. I gave Red Dawn one more swift kick in the ribs asking him to give me all he's got just one more time tonight. And just like that we were barreling down home stretch with the crowed screaming our names. The people in the stands became a blur just before I pulled Red Dawn to a stop.

I jumped off of Red dawn waiting for our times.

"Ladies and gents we have a set of new winners. May Smith and Red Dawn with a time of 14 seconds flat"The announcer called out.

I jumped up into the air just before I wrapped my arms around Red Dawn's sweaty neck. I couldn't believe we had won.

"That was a nice run" I let go of Red Dawn and turned behind me to were the male voice had came from.

Great. I turned around and was met with the last person I thought would ever talk to me. Standing six foot, chocolate brown hair and matching brown eyes stood the only cowboy that could caught my eyes. Jack Hatch. The one and only calf roper who was as cute as the bull riders on PBR. He I had a crush on him but I knew better then to let my heart get ropped by cowboy who is just going to stomp on it like a bull did to Lane Frost.

"Thanks" I turned back to Red Dawn and started to walk off with him. As I walked away I heard the clicking of spurs next to mine. Jack caught up to me.

"He's a nice animal" he nodded to Red Dawn.

"He's more then a pound of meat" I looked at Jack with almost a death glare.

"Ok ok" he raised his hands up in surrendering position.

"Names Jack. Jack Hatch" he breached is hand out to me.

"May. May Smith" I shook his hand firmly. It as weird shaking a crush's hand but I'll get over it.

"May get over here" I gruff voice that I knew all to well as my father's called. I looked over to my right to see that I've already made it to my trailer.

"See you around?" I could see Jack's cool collective self change to a nervouse wreck. I'm sure my dad was either giving him the evil eye or was taking a few daring steps towards us.

"If your going to the Huston rodeo then yeah you ell see me" I gave him a small wave good bye before I tied Red Dawn up to the trailer.

"You shouldn't be telling cowboys what rodeo your going to next" my dad scolded as I slipped the saddle off of Red Dawn.

"Please dad I'm sure he was going to the Huston one any ways" I plopped the saddle down on the saddle rack while dad loaded up Red Dawn.

"Hey dad?" I popped my head out of the trailer to glance at my dad.

"What sweet heart?"

"How's grandpa?" I asked.

My mom's dad was really sick. He had been in and out of hospitals for the past months with all different issues. Turn a out he has lung cancer. My mom had stayed home to keep an eye on grandpa while I ran my rodeos. Which is actually one of the few reasons my dad is with me on this rodeo. I kinda felt bad though leaving my mom at home with out either one of us there to help her. My mom is the toughest woman you ell ever met. You met her and you think she's a stubborn ass cowgirl who couldn't web any happier. But the only thing is she's not the happiest person e leads you to be. She just has a very good poker's face. She could hide the greatest depression and still give you the greatest advise you ell every receive from anyone.

"We'll just have to go home and see" my dad sighed as he walked around the truck to the drivers side.

And with that I jumped out of the trailer tack room. Shutting the door I jumped into the truck with my dad and prepared for the long ride home.
