Nat POV:
"Hey Mama" I called as I stepped into the house, hanging my coat on the hooks by the door.

"Hey dorogoya" Mama called from the kitchen. There was a pile of mail on the doormat so I picked them up and took them into the next room.

"How was your day?" Mama asked. She looked up from the dough she was kneading on the counter.

"Meh. It was ok. I'm tired though." I placed the mail on the table and picked up an apple from the fruit bowl, taking a bite and humming at the taste. Something about apples just hits the spot after school.

"WHAT'S WITH THE MOVING VANS OUTSIDE!" Yelena shouted from the living room. I dropped my bag on a chair and raced in, grabbing Lena's ponytails and pulling her away from the window. She yelled in protest but I ignored her.

There were 3 removal vans parked outside our house and 2 boys who looked about 8 years old were running around chasing each other with toy lightsabers and water guns. A woman with long red hair had a big cardboard box in her arms and I watched as she walked into the house next door to ours.

"I THINK WE'VE GOT NEW NEIGHBOURS!" I yelled, informing the rest of the house.

"Yeah no shit" Yelena muttered, so I slapped her. She's only 12, so she shouldn't be saying that.

"Neighbours?" Papa boomed as he came in from the garage, his clothes covered in oil. He pulled Yelena into his side and ruffled her hair, but she grimaced and quickly pulled away, muttering "that's disgusting" under her breath.

"Yeah. There's moving vans outside and I've seen some kids and a women bringing stuff into the house. They seem pretty chill."

"Hm. Well, we should invite them for a drink. Plenty of vodka in the cupboard." Alexei pulled a bottle of 'said drink' from the table and unscrewed the cap, gulping down a few mouthfuls before wiping his mouth with his sleeve.

"OK BIG GIRLS! DINNER!" Mama called from the kitchen. Yelena was already in there and I heard her squeals of excitement about the steaming mac and cheese on her plate.

We all sat down to dinner as everyone relayed various details about their day. Yelena waffled about some stupid 6th grade drama whilst Papa explained how he was almost done fixing my motorcycle. Thank god. I've had to walk to school for 2 weeks whilst it was broken, so I cannot wait to get back into it.

After dinner I went upstairs to finish some homework I had left. It was quite hot, so my bedroom window was open slightly to let the air circulate. Artic Monkeys played gently through my laptop as the sun slowly set.

I lifted my head from my textbook as I realised the sun had completely set and my desk was only lit by a singular lamp. I quickly switched on some more lights before settling down to finish the question I was on. But a new sound made me stop writing.

Soft guitar strums floated into my room through the open window, so I paused my music and went over to my window.

Directly across from my window sat a girl. She's one of my new neighbours that moved into today, I think. I'd never seen her before. But trust me. I would remember someone like that. She was sat on her window seat with an acoustic guitar in her lap, strumming soft chords. She opened her mouth and started to sing and I was instantly captivated. She was playing a slowed version of "Valerie" and her voice was gorgeous. Raspy and unique. Beautiful.
