Luke was taken aback by this completely unexpected sight. He was expecting aggressive growls and killer stares, but what he saw in front of him was the polar opposite.
"What the... What the hell is going on here?"
Luke then turned his gaze to Lance, who began to speak in a sighing tone while shaking his head.
"They've been waiting for you to wake up."
"What? Why? "
"Ask the caretakers- I mean, ask the guards."
Luke then turned his gaze to Liam, who is staring blankly at the werewolves in the cells. Liam then spoke.
"Jay did the majority of the work here."
"What exactly did you guys do?"
"Well, we wanted to make sure you had everything easy once you woke up, so Jay and I did a little bit of... lecturing on them."
"...Lecturing?"
Liam nodded and turned his head to the side, causing Luke to look in the same direction. Luke then noticed a wooden door slowly opening and what appeared is a happy-looking orange-haired man coming out with a cup of smoking-hot tea, it's Jay.
Jay hummed as he exited the room and was about to drink his tea when he noticed a few people nearby.
"Hmm? Oh, Liam? You are back already-?"
Crack! Crash!
Jay was taken aback by the familiar blank face staring back at him. He was so flabbergasted that he dropped his teacup, causing it to shatter on the ground. Jay remained frozen as he stared at Luke; he had not expected Luke to awaken today. He was completely unprepared for it!
"Oh, my lord..."
Luke cast an uneasy look at Jay's stunned expression. Jay appeared stunned as if his soul had left his body for a few seconds. Luke simply sighed and decided not to prolong the situation any further.
"What happened here, Jay?"
"Oh? Uhm... Well, I was guarding them...? "
Luke frowned, causing Jay to flush. Jay then made a few fake coughs and tried to keep a cool face.
"Well, commander, a lot has happened during your absence, but everything has ended on a positive note. Liam and I also decided to guard the prisoners as a precaution."
"No, no, I already knew that."
Jay tilted his head in confusion while looking at Luke.
"Hmm? Then what would you like to know commander?"
Luke frowned at Jay and used his thumb to point to the werewolves who were staring at him like well-trained puppies.
"I wanted to know what the hell did you do for them to look and act like this."
"Ah."
Jay snapped his fingers as if he understood what Luke was saying and began walking towards the far end of the cell. While Luke and the others walked behind him, Jay began to explain.
"While guarding the werewolves, Liam and I became curious about how the werewolves became involved with the Dark Eye. So we decided to lecture them while asking them a few questions."
"...What kind of lecture?
Lance responded with a sigh.
"You don't need to know."
Luke frowned but eventually sighed. He wanted to know what they did to the werewolves, but after seeing how stressed Lance looked, he no longer wants to know. Luke simply chose to listen to Jay's explanation.
"We spoke with the captain of the werewolves we captured, and we discovered that they were forced to obey because their king decided to join forces with the Dark Eye for power reasons."
"Ho...."
Jay nodded and continued to speak as Luke let out a light gasp.
"The werewolves became puzzled as to why their king chose to side with humans, causing rifts and cracks in the werewolves' beliefs of not associating themselves with human activities. This also resulted in the formation of two opposing factions, making the werewolves' bonds unstable. These guys that are in the cells were the ones who disagree with their king's decision."
"I see..."
Luke simply nodded as he listened to Jay's explanation. The situation with the werewolves reminded Luke of something from his past. He then simply sighed. It appears that wherever he goes, situations like this will continue to exist.
Jay came to a halt in front of the cell that is in the far corner of the dungeon, causing Luke and the others to do the same. Jay then took a step back, allowing Luke to see inside the cell. Luke then took a step forward and peered inside the cell through the bars.
"Hello!"
"What the hell!"
Shing!
Luke's heart nearly jumped twice as a result of the unexpected surprises. Luke then pressed his chest against his chest while staring at the scene in front of him. He then noticed Liam pointing his sword at someone's jaw, and the person to whom he was pointing his sword simply gulped while staring at the shiny sharp sword pointing at him.
Luke turned to face the person Liam was threatening with his sword. It is the man who suddenly appeared in front of Luke's face, surprising him and causing him to take a step back.
"Oh dear!"
Luke then looked at the person in the cell that suddenly spoke and saw him looking at him with an apologetic expression. Luke looked at this with confusion at first, but then noticed that the person, no- werewolf, was becoming nervous because of the sword pointing at him, so Luke signaled Liam.
"Liam put the sword down."
Liam remained silent at first before lowering the sword and returning it to its scabbard. But it appears that Liam is still focused on the werewolf inside the cell.
The werewolf just chuckled nervously as he looked at Luke, who was approaching him slowly. He then noticed Luke looking at him for a few seconds, as if observing him, before speaking.
"What is your name?"
The werewolf blinked a few times before speaking with a bright smile.
"My name is Felix! It's a pleasure to meet you, commander."
