The labours of our heroes past shall never be in vain.
The world is silent as I walk down the memory lane,
to the days when all our fathers did was work in pain,
deprived of all good things and made to wear slavish chains.

Living in bondage lain,
 and not allowed to complain.
Striving hard for freedom to reign,
but deprived of liberty's rain.

There wasn't any relief,
to help suppress the grief.
Falling to death like a leaf,
lives were lost like cows killed to get beef.

Recalling Dennis Vincent's lines,
we were like in his poem, the voice,
crying endlessly in the night,
and was never consoled till they were slavery void.

But one day, slavery had to hide its face.
That day, it fell into a lifetime disgrace.
Nigerians stood up and raised their heads in grace,
for freedom walked in and dominated the place.

To the promised land of infinite beauty,
 we were taken with dignity.
Where every one of us danced in ecstacy,
on the lands our fathers toiled with their sweat and sincerity.

No one can bring us to extinction, we'll always be back.
We're so strong, even slavery had to tip its hat.
So who are you to stand against us black?
For we came from the shadows and we'll forever stand.
