day trip

alice and atlasAWKWARD SILENCES WERE NOT AVA'S forte.
She was enjoying the hike as much as she could; breathing in unrecycled air was something she would never grow tired of. Neither were the hues of emerald that clung to the branches of the trees that inhabited the area around them. Ava had half a mind to pull her hair from its braided state and let it run wild with the wind, she dismissed the thought, however, when she concluded that she would never get the knots out. She still greatly enjoyed her surroundings, even the smell – Ava thought she'd read somewhere that it was called petrichor, the scent of dust after rain. Ava loved that smell.
What she didn't love was the uncomfortable quiet that had settled between herself and Bellamy.
The occasional lulls of birdsong and wind rustling the leaves would sometimes break the deafening quiet, but it wasn't enough.
They'd been walking for an hour or two and the most Ava had gotten out of Bellamy was a few exasperated huffs. She had no idea why he was in such a bad mood. Maybe it was the comment she made back at camp.
